Cruelty Free, Furless Makeup Brushes Interview/Guide

Today’s post features brushes, and the Owner of the company, Furless!  I can’t make a joke about this in the disclosure, so I’ll just state it right here: I am not affiliated with Furless, but I sure wish I were! I wish I had a friend – anybody that was even remotely related to me – that worked at this company. I’ve told the Owner at  the cruelty free company Furless , who will be referred to here as “Ms. Furless,” that I am just loving her brushes.

After I placed my order for brushes (which will be a future post!) Ms. Furless sent me some photos to stare at while I waited for my order to arrive.  I told her that I felt as happy as the women on her website—they are depicted  jumping up and down!  Scroll down on the Furless website, and look at the happy, jumping silhouettes!  In addition to their website, you may follow Furless on Twitter.

As I have featured many brushes from my personal collection, I promised, in a previous post, that I would have a Makeup Brush Expert coming soon. Here it is:

The Furless Guide To Choosing Makeup Brushes!

Having the right tools for makeup application can really make a world of difference to your end look. But how do you know which brushes to chooseFurless has put together a quick and easy guide to choosing the right makeup brushes.

What does the fact that a brush has dense bristles mean?

Dense bristles are a sign of a good quality brush and help you to create a more even and blended application.

How do you choose which brush to use for each area of your face/body?

If you want to dust on loose body shimmer or bronzer to your limbs, go with a brush with a large, wide, thick head of bristles. This enables you to cover a larger area in less time than it would take using a smaller powder brush.  Some good examples are a large fan brush or a big domed kabuki brush.

If you have smaller eyes, very little crease, or a smaller mobile lid area, then you are going to want to choose eyeshadow/blending brushes that are smaller, and will fit into the crease of your eye.

Make sure that the blush brush you are using is in proportion to your face. Most blush brushes used are too big, and don’t allow you to define and contour as well as a smaller brush.

Ms. Furless, what about the length of the handle?

If you plan on using brushes on yourself in the mirror, choosing brushes with shorter handles will enable you to get up close to the mirror, without the handles getting in the way.

How about some Tricks/Tips for from Furless on determining if a brush is of a lesser quality and has the dreaded, “Fallout?”

A good trick in testing a brush for shedding is to gently pull on the hairs to see how many come out. It is normal for a new brush to shed a hair or two, but it should stop shedding after the first wash.

What about the weight of the brush? Is that of any importance in choosing a brush?

Do you like to have a firm grip on a heavy sturdy handle (i.e. heavy handed), or do you like a light brush that is sensitive to smaller movements? Only you will know the answer to this!

Are you using a brush on yourself, or working on others?

If you are buying brushes to use professionally, you may want to consider the image you would like to portray.

A mini travel set probably wouldn’t be the best choice to use on a job, but would be perfectly fine to use on yourself or a friend.

Furless has outstanding brushes. Please tell my readers about your eco friendly ones. (In a future post, I will write & show pictures about one that I have already purchased.)

If making ethical choices as a consumer is important to you, then you may want to consider choosing bamboo eco brushes, and synthetic hair.

Bamboo is a fast growing, renewable resource, that has less of an impact on the world’s resources than other types of brush handles like plastic or wood from trees.

If readers go to the following link, they will see the choices of bamboo brushes:

Also! If your Readers use the code: BAMBOO at the checkout, they will receive 15% OFF our bamboo brushes and sets!

Excellent! Thank you, Ms. Furless!

Ms. Furless, how about some tips if someone is beginning a makeup brush collection?

If you are just starting out, a set like our Purple Power Set, with all the brushes you need to create any look, won’t break the bank, and will give you a taste of what brushes you like to use.

Look at these beautiful brushes!

You can then add individual brushes to your collection later on as you learn.

Watch and Learn. When in doubt, watch what the pros use on YouTube. You can really pick up some fabulous tips, see what brushes they are using for each application, and get an idea of product placement.

We know you should choose cruelty free! That’s another great reason why readers should try Furless brushes.

Yes, choose cruelty free brushes! Due to advances in technology, we now have access to taklon and nylon fibres that mimic animal hair and are super dooper (or super duper) soft.

There is no longer any need to involve animals in our beauty products. We have a great choice of colours and styles to choose from, the cruelty free way.

Thank you, Furless. I love the quality of your brushes, and you have made it easy to choose to buy ethically and responsibly! My immense thanks to you and your wonderful company!

Thank you. Love, Furless  x

  1. Wow, what can i say except i have been looking forward to this interview and once you receive the product Moxie, the review. i looked on the Furless website and the brushes are so beautiful. i love the purple power set and the bamboo. the price point is great. i do like the denser brushes, and i liked the tip about shorter handles when using on yourself or a girlfriend perhaps. as a starter, i could get the purple power set, and then get a bamboo set with the 15% off without breaking the bank, as was said. thanks so much Moxie for an excellent interview with Ms. Furless! can’t wait until you review the brush you purchased!

You’re too kind. Thank you! By the way, I purchased *brushes!!* Plural. You don’t think I could restrain myself, do you? LOL! xo

I especially like the idea of having shorter handles. Women like Jen whose eyesight ain’t what it used to be need to get up close and personal with the mirror. She says she can still remember having to go “fix” her grandmother’s “face”.
