And the award for Best Indie Skin Care Line at About.com 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards was given to…(envelope please…) Yes, YBF Skincare!
The YBF in Skincare is: Your Best Face. The founding partners, Kimberley and Darrell created their line in 2004. As they have both pointed out, there are so many brands that are competing for our attention these days, it’s sometimes difficult to learn about some of the smaller, albeit great, brands that are available.
Of course, Your Best Face is cruelty free, a requirement for being reviewed on my website. If you’re new to YBF, as I was, I’ll write about what makes this company different from other brands that you have used. I will also provide information on where to purchase the products.
First, Your Best Face’s Product Line is advertised as being “highly concentrated and extremely effective products for women and men.” Their philosophy: “…Brands promise a fountain of youth but we believe in cutting the hype.” Ha! Having the nickname, Moxie, I will be less diplomatic. YBF cuts through all the bull that many companies espouse to their customers! So, what Kimberley and Darrell want are repeat customers. They are the ones who know that the products they order will be ones that they will not only love, but also want to give feedback to YBF; they can have an actual “dialogue” with you, the customer.
That accessible approach comes straight from the founders!
Results and Value! Darrell and Kimberley originally started to create their products for their family and close friends, only. They believe that fact alone should tell you that they wanted to create incredible skincare products that would use only safe ingredients, and they carefully looked at all the ingredient options, from natural to synthetic. They also decided to use airless pumps, which ensures a more hygienic application and only a minimal need for preservatives. Hooray for YBF! I for one do not like sticking my fingers in jars–no matter how clean they may be. Also, the more times a jar is opened, the more you are exposing the product, the more you’re reduce its effectiveness and, yes, expose it to bacteria-No matter how careful you are!
Ingredients Used: YBF uses what they classify as “the best ingredients available.” They select and then use the latest and most effective antioxidants, peptides, vitamins and botanicals to make sure that your skin looks “it’s best.”
Formulas for products: YBF offers a better value than other brands because each product is not only highly concentrated but is designed to multi-task for reliable results. Darrell and Kimberly want you to know that their products have pleasant textures and are easily absorbed.
YBF Skincare has accomplished, in addition to the above mentioned Readers Choice Award, a May 2011 celebration of four years with The Skin Care Shop (in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia) where they were the first—this should read, also “smart”—retailer of their products. In addition, The MakeUp Bar, in Oklahoma City, is now a new retailer.
The great news is that one of the recent milestones is the addition of five new products to Your Best Face’s lineup; that would include two eye creams, two serums and Balance.
I believe the best way to show you all this information without overwhelming you, is to put what samples I received in categories, and then write a description of each, with comments. Of all of the samples that I was sent, *none* of them gave my very pale complexion any type of reaction or breakout.
If there are any questions that I do not answer, or you want more personal information about either the products that I reviewed, or ones that I did not receive samples of, please

Face Care:
defend: this did keep my skin hydrated all day. It was very light and did not feel greasy at all. It is to balance oil and shine and to tone.
restore: This was created for those who want to include vitamin c as part of their skincare routine. It is to brighten skin, and soothe and refresh. It was used (as explained above) before and after my poison ivy, and I do believe that this did help to promote healing. Not of poison ivy, of course, but just the stress my face went through.
control: this is to reduce deep wrinkles, for sun damage repair and rejuvenate your complexion. For the record, I don’t have deep wrinkles and I always wear hat and/or sunscreen. However, the product is great to help me with its other benefits for skin: stress and time.
Concentrates:
hydrate B: improving your skin’s hydration is most certainly a *very* important step to enhance any skin care routine. It works by having active ingredients that help the skin feel soft and smooth. This is a clear gel and YBF suggests that it is best when paired with other products. It may, though, be a gentle alternative, if you are using a toner.
antioxidants: this is a very light serum that is very versatile. Why? Because YBF suggests you either use this by itself, *or* add a little amount to whatever your skincare is: creams, masks and serums. I really liked that YBF made a note about this. If you’re not using their line, then you can purchase this, and include it as a part of whatever your current favorite is.
I used this as recommended on my neck, hands, elbows, and (as I love to garden) on my knees. Excellent!
Eyes:
correct: YBF advertises this as their “end-all-be-all” eye cream. It helps to fight signs of aging and fatigue. I don’t have dark circles under my eyes, but it is to reduce the dark circles. I could see that it brightened my eye area.
refresh: this was a very moisturizing eye cream and it is meant to be used every day. I did not have to apply a lot, because I personally found that very little was needed to moisturize. This contains antioxidants and peptides to help reduce existing wrinkles and help avoid new ones.
Lip Care:
define: It most definitely soothed my lips! If you have lines it is to smooth them. This would also be used to address any concerns you might have regarding wrinkles and suppleness.
quench: this is a very smooth lip treatment (definitely velvety, as advertised) and it will seal in moisture to prevent damage from environmental factors. Worked instantly!
