While new to the United States, the Konjac Sponge Company’s sponges are extremely popular in the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea and China. The Konjac Body Sponge is the third Sponge that I have tested, and it was sent from the UK, where the Company is located.
What is a Konjac Sponge? The Konjac Sponge is sponge that is from the root of the Amorphophallus konjac plant. This is an edible plant, naturally rich with moisture, and by it’s nature, is alkaline. That’s excellent, as it balances the acidity of your skin and its oils.
This was mentioned in a previous post about Konjac Sponges, but I believe it’s important to reiterate. Be aware! There are many imitations of The Konjac Sponge Company brand. These products may not have been approved, and may contain impurities, microbes and mildew! In addition, the quality is not as soft, and not as long lasting; they may not even be 100% pure Konjac. Even if they happen to be Konjac, there may be “bits” and impurities in their sponges. The Konjac Sponge Company has sponges that are made to the highest standards, and have been rigorously tested to satisfy trading standards; they have passed all sorts of microbe test requirements. They state on their website, “If it doesn’t say Konjac Sponge Company on the packet, it is not a proper Konjac Sponge Company sponge!”
The Body Sponge is the largest of the Konjac Sponges that was sent for review:

I’ve enjoyed all of the Sponges that I’ve tested thus far. The Body Sponge is the biggest (in size) and there are some differences. Michele, the Company Director (CEO), responded to some questions I had.
Michele, this is the third sponge that I have tested. Unlike the other two, French Pink Clay and For All Skin Types, I noticed that after taking the Body Sponge from it’s package, it was dry. Please explain why?
The body sponge is only stocked in its dry form, as the shipping of the water in the sponge would make it so much more expensive! Its that simple! When we bring product in, the wet sponge is so much heavier and so the shipping costs increase!
It’s so great to read that The Konjac Sponge Company added the Body Sponge due to customer demand. Your customers write to you, and they also get to meet you at shows in the UK. It’s great that you own the company so you can make quick changes based on customers’ needs.
We added the body sponge as everyone simply kept saying “Oh, I wish there was a bigger one.” I decided a body sponge was a good idea! We tested the market and are now finding quite a huge demand for it!
The other sponges in your line have a string attached to hang it up after use. The Body Sponge has no string. Why?
The body sponge has no string. Once wet and hanging, the weight of the water would no doubt cause the sponge to tear, as it can hold so much its on weight in water; yet being relatively delicate and a little like “cake,” it would rip if too much water was left in the sponge.
After using the sponge its really important to gently squeeze the sponge out between your 2 flattened hands (never wring it!) and then allow it to dry in a well ventilated place (or even store it in the fridge!) Never leave your sponge where it remains too wet, such as in the shower! The more fresh dry atmosphere your sponge is stored in, the longer it will last! Change your sponge every few months or when it starts to break down!
The Body Sponge has two sides, with waves and smooth. What is each side designed for?
The wave side of the body sponge is the side for exfoliating. Its bumpy texture is designed to get into all angles and curves of the body and gently “wipe away” the dead skin cells. The smooth side, or “back” of the sponge, is simply there for a gentler different texture. By the nature of the making, the sponge could not have waves on both sides, but people like the back as much as the front for washing!
Anything else you’d like my readers to know about The Konjac Company’s Body Sponge?
Most people love the Body Sponge, and it’s a bit more expensive because more Konjac is, of course, used to make it. The big Body Buffer that you have is the “King” of the Konjac Sponge. It is designed to sit ergonomically in the hand for a thorough wash and is perfect for making the tiniest bit of body wash do the most thorough wash that makes everyone feel very clean and fresh. The body sponges are ideal for exfoliating those dry rough areas of skin like the tops of the arms, or dry legs.
Personally I use just the sponge to cleanse, and a tiny bit of body wash for underarms and intimate places! The sponge is adequate for a full and thorough wash through!
