Looking for a cruelty free exfoliator product that is chemical free? Want to try “the next best treatment to a professional salon facial?” I highly recommend the following exfoliator product sent for review by Reviva Labs:
This supplementary cleansing step can be used in any skin care program!
This is an exfoliant that, as advertised, “lets you see immediate results!” Skincare products are not always that simple to judge if they are working for you/your skin care needs. Many products simply require time before you can decide if they’re “working,” or are, “successful.” So, of course, anything that gives me a chance to quickly made a judgment call is welcomed!
Ingredients: Purified water, SDA Alcohol 40, crushed almonds, vegetable oil, zinc oxide, kaolin, starch, glycerin, chamomile, methylcellulose, salicylic acid, allantoin, papain, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid, oil of thyme
Note: I asked Mr. Strassler, the President and CEO of Reviva Labs, if the use of crushed almonds means that people sensitive/allergic to nuts should not use this product?
Mr. Strassler let me know that he has never heard of anyone having a problem because it contains crushed almonds.
I love that the expiration date was clearly listed on the bottom of the jar:
Easy to use!! Directions: Once a week, apply a light coat of Skin Peel over cleansed face and throat. (I used this once a week, for 3 weeks, to test).
I let the Skin Peel dry for 3-5 minutes. I made sure it was completely dry, and then I gently rubbed it off with my fingers. The directions mention that you can remove it with your fingers, a dry towel, or a cosmetic sponge.
I could find no “cons” to this product. Reviva Labs Light Skin Peel was gentle on my skin and yet was very effective.
Also, this product will last a long time.
Mr. Strassler again, very kindly and quickly responded to another question I had, How long will the Light Skin Peel stay, “fresh?”
Mr. Strassler’s response: “Once you start using, it could take 4-6 months before it starts drying (although still usable). But we never get reports that the product dried or hardened before it was used up.”
There are so many benefits to exfoliation, I believe the best way to present them to you is to share an article that was very helpful to me. You can read in-depth information about exfoliation from an Expert. There is also information for those of you who are currently using alpha hydroxy acids. The following was written by Stephen Strassler, President & Founder of Reviva Labs, and I have received permission to use it on my blog.
“THE INVALUABLE INSTANT ACTION BENEFITS OF EXFOLIATION”
by Stephen Strassler
Every day, new cells form in the bottom layer of the epidermis and slowly travel upward to the skin surface. During this 30-day journey, the cells gradually lose moisture. At the surface they die. They dry out completely and turn into flakes. That is where the concept of “exfoliation” comes to play. Exfoliation involves the removal of dead skin cells which cover the surface of our skin. Weekly removal of dead skin cells is essential in good skin care for the following reasons:
Dead skin cells that accumulate on the skin surface dull the complexion; keep skin tone from looking fresh. Each week you have dead cell build-up, dulling and clouding the skin, depriving it of its smoothest texture.
Besides dulling skin tone, when a sufficient amount of dead cells aren’t removed, other harmful effects can occur. Bacteria, dust and toxins can accumulate within … pores can get congested and block normal oil flow to the surface, causing blemishes.
Dead cells obstruct treatment products from being absorbed. Even the best products can’t do their job if they’re just sitting on top of dead cells. Without exfoliation, even the best moisturizer or night cream can’t penetrate the excess cells. So exfoliation is important for every skin type … and all ages … and it is particularly vital for aging or blemished skin.
Reviva was one of the very first companies to introduce the European concept of exfoliation to America in the 1970’s. Whereas exfoliants like alpha hydroxy acids take weeks to show results, Reviva’s UNDUPLICATED LIGHT SKIN PEEL EXFOLIANT immediately removes dead cells, bringing out the clear, moist new skin cells below, helping revive your complexion. If you are using alpha hydroxy acids, like glycolic acid, you can still use our Light Skin Peel once-a-week on a day that you don’t use the Glycolic Cream. In fact, the use of Light Skin Peel will speed-up the results of a glycolic program as well as shows the immediate improvement in skin texture.
For dry skin, our formula invigorates new cell activity as it removes dead cells. This improves metabolism and allows new cells to arrive at the surface with more moisture, helping to alleviate dryness.
For oily skin, it helps unclog pores so that there can be normal oil flow to the surface. Blemishes occur when oil gets backed up in pores, harden and can’t reach the surface.
For aging skin, cell-building and circulation are inter-related. Light Skin Peel is invaluable when cells do not regenerate normally in aging skin. Cells do eliminate waste materials properly via blood circulation. Not “breathing” properly, skin cells then can create a blotchy complexion or discoloration. This would be added to the dryness problem.
“Light Peel’s” effect is not abrasive. There is no harsh stretching of the skin. So it is safe for the most fragile, sensitive skin. The dead cells and waste materials are simply enclosed by the grainy liquid and removed.
Of course, when Reviva introduced Light Skin Peel to salons and Health Food Stores in 1973, the word “exfoliation” was unknown to most. But now, Exfoliation is a common term and there are many exfoliants on the market. Although “Light Peel’s” action is still unlike the others, Reviva has added a second exfoliant – “Pomegranate/Lactic Acid Exfoliant” – that is quicker and easier to remove. Too, the Pomegranate Exfoliant is milder and can be used a few times a week, whereas Light Peel is recommended for once-a-week usage.”
