Here on the East Coast in the US, it’s beautiful, sunny weather. At times a bit too humid, but it’s wonderful to be outside. However, we all know from medical experts and scientists that the sun’s UVA and UVB rays cause sunburn, skin aging, and skin cancer. Since you need to have protection from the sun, the company I will review has products they’ve developed that is sun protection that you wear. This is their mission: To develop superior sun protective products that allow people to enjoy life in the sun. “Coolibar is sun protection.“ They sell UPF 50+ sun protective clothing, hats, UV swimwear & accessories. Find Coolibar on Facebook, too!
Clothing that blocks UV rays? Yes! You absolutely must wear sunscreen, but as we all know, it does need to be reapplied and even if you’re wearing a long sleeve shirt, you are still getting exposed to UVA and UVB rays. If your clothes were thick enough to block them, Coolibar points out, they would be too thick and certainly too hot for the summer!
Coolibar is the first sun-protective clothing company to be recommended by The American Academy of Dermatology, the Skin Cancer Foundation and Approved by Melanoma International Foundation! That’s because their clothing and accessories actually prevent ultraviolet rays from catching your skin, and they do so with lightweight fabrics.
Coolibar sent a very fashionable straw hat for me for a review:
- 4″ front brim for excellent face and neck protection
- 23″ circumference
- Crushable construction—great for travel!
This is the inside of the hat. Superbly made and very comfortable, lightweight hat.
- Moisture-wicking elastic sweatband
- Cotton crown lining
I wore this in temperatures over 100 °F/ 38 °C, and my head didn’t get hot–everything else was perspiring, though! It was comfortable and fit perfectly. Most importantly, though, I felt safe knowing that I didn’t have a false sense of security. Coolibar fabrics are tested in a independent laboratory to determine their UPF, their Ultraviolet Protection Factor. This is a rating for fabrics that is like that for the SPF rating that is on sunscreen. My hat has a UPF of 50+, which means that the fabric used to make the hat will block 98% of UVA and UVB rays.
There is absolutely nothing that I didn’t love about the hat. In fact, my daughter loved it too, and has taken off with it. Fortunately, the boys in the household weren’t interested in the style! How much did I love the hat? I have ordered my own Tropicana Sun Hat, with a trim of a black crepe sash tie (I received the brown sash, as pictured). In addition, I ordered a Sun Shade Visor, and a Sedona Hat (I paid for all three of these myself).
If you order now, you can take advantage of the 20% off sale until September 3rd (put in the code SALE12).
If for some reason you’re not happy? The sun protective fabrics have a guaranteed Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 50+ for the life of the garment.
