Flower Cosmetics: Shadow Play Eye Shadow Quad

Drew Barrymore has four shades of the Flower Cosmetics Shadow Play Eye Shadow Quad now available at certain Walmart stores, and online at Walmart.com. The Flower Cosmetics eyeshadows all include an applicator, and are advertised as having “color that blends evenly and flawlessly on the eyelid.” Each is priced at $9.98.

Here are the four Flower Cosmetics Shadow Play Eyeshadow Quads that I have for review:

Flower Cosmetics Details:

I like that the quads are easy to look into and see the colors. It’s great that’s there is a magnetic closure on each quad.

There is a piece of tape covering the quad so you can see that it has not tampered with; although some pieces of tape at my local Walmart looked like they were half-on, and others clearly had the tape broken.  Of course, that is not the fault of Flower!

I know that all of Flower Cosmetics are made in the USA, and each of the eyeshadows has this on the back: Flower Cosmetics

However, I have still not seen a full statement that there is no animal testing by Flower Cosmetics, or their suppliers.

Peel back the label above, and there are the ingredients listed and directions/suggestions on how to use the eyeshadows.

I swatched these colors several times, (and under different lighting conditions) and the third color down, the lightest of them, really blended into my skin color.

My favorite of the eyeshadow quads was Face the Grey. So, that’s what I used  in my photo below:

You can use the applicator that is provided; I used my own eyeshadow brushes. The directions are to apply the lightest shade as a base color to lid up to the brow bone. Apply colors to lid, with darkest shade in the crease. Blend well. You can use the Flower eyeshadows dry (as I did) or wet, for more intensity.

First, I applied an eyeshadow primer. I used #1 on my brow bone, #2 on my lid, #3 in the crease and eyeliner on top lash line, #4 eyeliner on bottom lash line

 Final Thoughts on Flower Cosmetics

I watched Drew on the Katie Couric show. Here’s a tip about the applicator: use the large end of the applicator (that is included) for lids, and the smaller pointy tip for liner and crease.

I really liked the Eyeshadow Quads. With the exception of the one chalky one in the Blue Lagoons palette, I found them all to be of high quality, no fall out at all, and the color lasted all day! At a price of $9.98, I felt that it was money well spent.

Disclosure: I purchased three of the eyeshadow palettes, and received one for review. All links are for your convenience only.

It Cosmetics Luxe Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Palette Review

It Cosmetics Luxe Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Palette: Photos and Swatches

It Cosmetics goal was to create intense pigments for a naturally pretty look and to formulate the eyeshadows to “diffuse the look of lines and wrinkles on the eyes and lids.”

It Cosmetics is certified cruelty free by PETA!

It Cosmetics Packaging:

This beautiful Palette is housed in a faux leather case that reminds me of a large wallet, and it is lightweight enough to not only take on a trip, but to keep in your handbag. The Palette ribbon pull allows one to easily take out the dual ended brush, and there are little magnets on the inside of the case to keep the Palette safely secured.

It Cosmetics Luxe Palette

A piece of plastic covers the shadows when you open the Palette. A great mirror!

You can see the dual ended brush (above) that is also included in the Palette.

Thoughts About It Cosmetics Palette:

I’ve tried It Cosmetics’ eyeshadows previously, so I had very high expectations, and I was excited to be able to sample more colors. This is a superb Palette!

I love that in addition to being cruelty free, all the eyeshadows are free of  talc, parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalate free.

They are non-comedongenic (won’t clog your pores ) and hypo-allergenic–great news for those of us with sensitive eyes. Each eyeshadow is infused with anti-aging ingredients: hydrolyzed collagen to plump lines, anti-oxidants to ward off free radicals, Acai, Vitamins A, C & E, and green tea extract, which helps to target puffiness.

It Cosmetics advertises their eyeshadows as being able to last all day. Do they?  Yes!! I wore a primer, and had zero fall out! I even “wore” swatches on my arm all day to test out how it fared with periodically rubbing my arm during the day. You’ll notice that one of the swatch photos was taken three hours into testing!

This is a very versatile Palette. There are matte and shimmer shades, and the eyeshadows can be used as eyeliners, too, of course.  The eyeshadow can be applied both dry and wet; applying them wet gives a great extra pop of color! The shadows are very pigmented, and are beautiful, rich colors.

I love that the eyeshadows are so soft and whether you have to worry about fine lines or not, it’s nice to have such silky shadows to use.

It is possible to get a really nice swatch of color on your eyes with just one gentle swipe of the brush. The dual ended brush is actually quite good, although not quite up to the quality of the brushes that It Cosmetics sells separately. I don’t think it’s a big deal though, considering that the Palette is very fairly priced at $38.00; and you’re getting 12 wonderful eyeshadows, a mirror, and the brush.

Tarte Cosmetics Call of the Wild Palette

Have you seen tarte Cosmetics Call of the Wild Collector’s Palette? This gorgeous spotted animal print palette contains eight, full-sized eye shadows, and was first offered at Ulta Beauty. It’s now at Sephora, and of course, tarte Cosmetics Website. Tarte Cosmetics writes, “Go wild but still look beautifully, naturally you.”

tarte Cosmetics statement on being cruelty free:

“Yes. tarte cosmetics is a cruelty-free cosmetics line. tarte makeup and skincare is never tested on animals.

All ingredients and finished formulas tarte uses are tested and based on US FDA requirements before being imported to the US. We only work with highly reputable laboratories and factories that meet the strictest GMP standards, which is an international grading scale for cleanliness and the environment for workers that abide by a strict code of standards. We also test each product ourselves to match our quality standards. Additionally, we are an approved PETA participant; they have audited our non-animal testing procedures.”

Here’s a look at the tarte Cosmetics Call of the Wild case.

It’s a patent leather-like material.

If you look closely (in the reflection in the mirror) you’ll see the plastic cover, which has the names of the shadows.

Since the plastic cover is off, and therefore, the names of the shadows don’t show, I have typed the name of each of the eight eye shadows.

Some swatches of tarte Cosmetics Call of the Wild:

There are six 0.09 oz eye shadows: Meow, Jungle, Instinct, Wild, Primal and Roar, and there are two 0.1 oz eye shadows: Call and Lynx

Meow: a shimmering gold shade

Jungle: a shimmering bronze shade

Call: a peachy shade

Instinct: a shimmering white shade

Wild: a shimmering plum shade

Primal: a matte gray shade

Lynx: a matte taupe shade

Roar: a matte cobalt shade

Lynx & Call Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow: Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Mica, Talc, Nylon-12, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Kaolin. (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

Thoughts about tarte Cosmetics Call of the Wild:

There is nothing I didn’t love about the Palette. Tarte Cosmetics eye shadows, both the mattes and shimmers, are very soft and easy to blend. I assume the eye shadows are so incredibly creamy because they contain Amazonian clay, which tarte writes will “nourish lids, reduce surface oil and improve overall texture.”  I had no creasing at all, nor did I have any fallout from the shimmery shadows. I love the palette and  agree with tarte’s advertising that it allows you to create looks “from sleek and stylish to sexy and wild.”

Highly recommend!

Price: $36.00

Totally agree!! The brush on the mascara “flexi-firm”, enabled me to get each individual lash coated with mascara without clumping.

There are illustrations of three possible looks to create with each row in the Shadow Bon Bons. I have based mine off of one called, “Toasty Caramel” (using row 3 colors), and also included two shadows from row 2 that I blended: Lovey Dovey and Hot Cocoa.

Moxie Reviews Too Faced Cosmetics

Thoughts About the Too Faced Shadow Bon Bons:

If you’re looking for an organic product, this is not for you. However, of course, Too Faced is cruelty free—it has been since the company began fourteen years ago! I agree with Too Faced that Shadow Bon Bons does, “make it easy to create bountiful looks. Go from sweet and sassy to subtle to dramatic with this one versatile set.” Make sure to use a primer, and you’ll find all the shadows are pigmented. The only shadow that I had a bit of fallout from was Peach Fuzz.

I like that there are three illustrated looks that you can create. I used it as a basis for the above photo. Shadow Bon Bons is a great value in that you’re not only getting twelve eye shadows, but you’re also able to sample the Shadow Insurance in Candlelight, and you receive a great, full size mascara!

Too Faced Cosmetics: Matte Eye Shadow Collection

The Palette for today’s review, the Matte Eye Shadow Collection, is not only cruelty free, but also Vegan-friendly: there are no animal bi-products.

Too Faced Cosmetics does not test on animals.

“No way, Too Faced loves animals! Our products are totally cruelty-free.”
Also, Too Faced does not sell their products in China, which by law, requires animal testing.

I’m not sure what is more amazing. The fact that the Founders of Too Faced,  and Jeremy Johnson, started their company only 14 years ago and are now a global company; or, that despite unlike other companies that no longer have cruelty free status, Too Faced has stayed true to their vision and remained cruelty free! Thank you, Too Faced, for caring about your customers, and the welfare of animals!

Co-Founders of Too Faced Cosmetics:
Jerrod is the Creative Director, and Jeremy takes care of Sales and Operations (CEO). The goal is to “offer foolproof makeup that allows real women to become as gorgeous as they dared to dream.”

Facebook  Twitter

The Matte Eye Shadow Collection was first available exclusively at Sephora in the Fall of 2011. Now you can find this, and other Too Faced  “Glamorous Goodies all over the world.”

Too Faced Cosmetics believes that “the modern way to wear matte is to keep it soft, sexy and sophisticated.”

Some specifics:

The three large eye shadows are each 0.07 ounces.

The six small eye shadows are each 0.03 ounces.

(Metric: three large eye shadows are each 2 g ; six small eye shadows are each 0.9 g).

Price: $36 ($75 value)

Opening and closing the Palette is easy with a magnetic closure:

There are three cards with directions for creating different looks with the shadows: Day, Classic and Fashion

Tufted Suede: caramel

Chinchilla: warm brown

Coffee Bean: the way I like my coffee- (dark, no cream, thanks!)

Velveteen Bunny : vanilla

Pebbles: stone grey

London Fog: navy

Fresh Linen: light pink

Vintage Violet: violet (gorgeous! and a very different violet from any of the eye shadows that I currently own). Not quite sure how to describe the violet color! This is my favorite color!!

Midnight: soft black

Swatches Courtesy of Too Faced Cosmetics:

My photos, swatched with Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer:

Taken inside, during the evening:

Ingredients:

Tufted Suede, Chinchilla, Coffee Bean, Velveteen Bunny, Pebbles, Fresh Linen, Midnight: Talc, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methicone. May Contain/Peut Contenir/(+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarines (CI 77007).

London Fog: Talc, Boron Nitride, Zinc Stearate, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Polyethylene, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Sorbic Acid, Mica, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarines (CI 77007).

I followed the instruction card to create a Fashion Eye:

Lots to love about the Matte Eye Shadow Collection.  It has both cool and warm tones. The shadows applied very easily, and were blendable. There was no fall out from the shadows; they didn’t crease, nor did they fade at the end of the day. *Note, I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer. There are instructions (How-to Cards) in both English, and on the opposite side, French. Vegan-friendly!

Any cons?  The only thing that I could think of is that you might not want an all matte palette. However, my opinion is that, while it’s great to have a variety of textures in a palette, it’s also convenient to have all matte in one place. I’m glad that I purchased the Matte Eye Shadow Collection, and I would highly recommend it!
