Leaping Bunny and Drugstore.com Special Offer!

Leaping Bunny and Drugstore.com

I wanted you to know that I received a press release that Leaping Bunny has partnered with drugstore.com for Earth Month 2013.

If you are one of the first 5,000 people who spend a minimum of $50 at The Natural Store (this is drugstore.com’s green and natural section), you will receive a free recycled cotton tote bag that will be filled with cruelty free samples! Leaping Bunny is the wonderful sponsor of this because they want “compassionate consumers” to have access to the cruelty free products that are available at The Natural Store.

In addition, I’m happy to report that Drugstore.com has pledged that they will to donate $1.00 from each sale from this special offer, right back to The Leaping Bunny Program. [Read more...]

Dermalogica is no longer cruelty free!

I wanted to pass on this information about another company that is no longer cruelty free. Leaping Bunny has taken Dermalogica, a skin care company, off their list. They investigated and confirmed that Dermalogica is selling in China, a country that requires animal testing for products to be registered and sold in country.

The Leaping Bunny Program is different from other cruelty free lists because they review each companies’ adherence to a no animal testing standard. All Leaping Bunny companies have independent audits to verify information, and each year they must pledge their continued commitment.

Here is some more information:

“Following up on reports, CCIC investigated and concluded that Dermalogica has had products approved for sale in The People’s Republic of China (China), which undoubtedly makes the company a party to animal testing.

“It is unfortunate that a company like Dermalogica, which has been on our list for several years, is implicated in cruel and unnecessary animal testing—just to sell in China,” said CCIC Chair Sue Leary. “It seems that they were monitoring their supply chain to guard against animal testing, but not their distribution system.”

“Companies need to understand: it’s your brand; it’s your responsibility,” Leary continued. “Dermalogica profited from sales in China and so they are accountable. That is the heart of the Leaping Bunny Standard.”

What’s really disheartening is that not only is Dermalogica no longer cruelty free, but also they were caught selling their products in China. Dishonest!!

The Leaping Bunny Program Partnership with Drugstore.com

On Friday, May 18, Kim Paschen, the Communications Manager of the Leaping Bunny Program, was incredibly kind to make sure I had seen the great news about the Leaping Bunny’s partnership with Drugstore.com.

Kim was quoted as saying, “This is a fantastic opportunity to reach a new audience of over 3 million people and not only educate them about the reality of product testing, which is still occurring on personal care and household products today, but also make them aware that there are so many great companies producing effective, quality products that are cruelty-free….Consumers can make this their one-stop shop for items free of animal testing.

A huge thank you to Kim! To all those reading, please check this out:

Blissoma Soy Candles are Vegan & Natural

Are you relaxed?

How do you relax? Need some stress relief? Have you tried aromatherapy? Blissoma Soy Candles are Vegan and Natural and are a great way to relax!

Blissoma, by Irie Star is a company that has Organic Skincare, Natural Facial Care, Apothecary and Aromatherapy Soy Candles.

Ten Blissoma aromatherapy scent blends are available

Blissoma is a green, organic, and healthy beauty company that has been recognized by the Leaping Bunny Program for Cruelty Free Cosmetics, and the Natural Perfumers Guild.  Almost all products are also Certified Vegan by VeganAction.org.

Blissoma’s founder, and creative director, is Julie Longyear. Julie’s line began with her soy candle range. As a budding herbal enthusiast, her first creative outlet was working with essential oils.  For several years, Julie was spending all her spare time and resources consumed with essential oil purchases. Depending on the oil, this, can be quite costly!

Julie, “loved the sensory experience, and had a bit of a gourmand leaning.” She writes that she is a “lush for tastes and scents” yet never really had a connection to synthetic scents and perfumes because they seemed rather cold to her. Once she connected with essential oils something really clicked, and “it became the olfactory companion obsession to my constant fascination with flavor in food.”

Blissoma’s Aromatherapy Soy Candles are 100% Vegan and 100% Natural.

Read what Julie pointed out to me: “Other lines use tricky marketing language like ‘natural oils’ to describe the ingredients used for their scents. These are not real essential oils directly from plants but rather ‘nature identical’ oils created in a laboratory for cost savings.  Blissoma uses only essential oils for our scents, meaning they must be steam distilled, cold pressed, or CO2 extracted directly from botanical materials.”

“We use our knowledge of the chemical and energetic attributes of essential oils to create our unique scents right in our production studio. Every candle is mixed and cast in house by hand.”

Here are photos of the two scents that were sent for review:

CALM

Lavender and chamomile are combined with bergamot to promote relaxation and inner peace. This is one of Blissoma’s most most popular scents.

BALANCE

This blend will lift your spirits and relax the body. Chamomile, ginger, orange and other scents work together to promote harmony.

Blissoma has designed the aromatherapy soy candles to be both eco friendly and travel friendly. Each candle is cast into a seamless tin that can be reused many times.

Here’s the first thing that I loved about both of the scents: they smelled really lovely, in the tin, without even lighting the wick!

Both scents were calming, although not to confuse you…one is called, “Balance.” I have not used either of them in their entirety, so I am giving you the information provided by Blissoma for the “burn time.”

4 oz. Soy Candle Tin burn time is 20 – 25 hours
the 8 oz. Soy Candle Tin burn time is 40 – 45 hours

Need more reasons why you should consider buying Blissoma’s soy candles? Not only do they not use artificial chemicals in the process of creating our candles, their candles do not contain dyes.

They are made with only 100% pure botanical essential oils, and never any scent extenders. If you see such terms as: pthalates, colorants, or additives, those are scent extenders.  If that isn’t “bad enough,” scent extenders may also irritate people who are sensitive to smells.

Why would anyone want to buy a fragrance with extending chemicals?!

Blissoma also uses only 100% cotton wicks, with no metal core. If you buy a candle made outside of the US, they may contain a metal centered wick (keeps the wick upright while it burns). If this is made of a lead base, it can release lead into the air–a toxin!!

Because they’re travel friendly, it’s easy to take your favorite Blissoma scents with you wherever you go.
