Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm Review & Photos

I had the opportunity to try a Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balm in the color Baby Bare. The Pixi Beauty Tinted Brilliance Balms are glossy lip balms that, when the glossy finish wears off, you are left with a pretty stain.

What I love about the Pixi Beauty Balm:

Pixi Beauty Balms are nice chubby Balm in stick form, allowing one to quickly get a beautiful swatch of color on your lips.

The Balm is very soft, and extremely hydrating. I love that this minty-flavor Balm leaves a nice stain of color, even after the gloss sheen has faded. It’s interesting that each of the colors will give your lips your own “unique” shade of pink! After the balm wears off, lips are left tinted with a color and intensity that depends on the pH level of your lips! I love the packaging with the sharper built right in! It’s a simple twist-up that does not require you to sharpen it.

The Tinted Brilliance Balm comes in a variety of colors in addition to Baby Bare;  the other colors, which you should definitely check out, are: Magnific Mauve, Craving Coral, Pretty Pink, Radiant Rose, Rosy Red, and Bitten Berry.

jane iredale Lip Drink SPF 15 Lip Balm Review

jane iredale- The Skin Care Makeup

I have a terrific product that I will review: the jane iredale product, the Lip Drink. Jane Iredale founded Iredale Mineral Cosmetics in 1994, and her goal has been to “make products that look good, feel good and are good for the skin. Products must be easy to apply, as well, so that a woman can be her best in the shortest amount of time.”

jane iredale products are certified cruelty free by PETA!  PETA

This jane iredale product is SPF 15 from the lip balm’s active ingredient, zinc oxide. It is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, and when used regularly it can aid in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin. The Lip Drink provides Medium Protection from UVB/UVA rays.

Jane Iredale lip drink

I like that the lip balm tube is designed to appeal to both women and men. It’s not  just women that have to worry about skin cancer; men are equally at risk, of course! The lip balm is advertised as being colorless, which is true, but I do get a white tint on my lips.

This is practical for all seasons. Your lips can get scorched from the winter winds and the sun’s rays in the summer.

This is the back of the box:

The Lip Drink bears the Recommended by Label:

Another great aspect is that the Lip Drink has no petroleum-derived products. Jane Iredale reports that it is Vegan and Gluten Free. The smell and flavor is from lemon and carrot oils.

See the open jar symbol? That’s the EU (European Union) requirement that all boxes and labels contain that symbol with the number of months you can expect to use the product at its “optimal performance.”   So the period the consumer has on the Lip Drink is 12 months.

Yu-Be: skin care, lip care and moisturizing socks

I received three Yu-Be products, Moisturizing Skin Cream, Lip Therapy, and Moisturizing Socks. Yu-Be is a Japanese company, and just to note, before accepting the products, Yu-Be responded to my email question to verify, “Yes, we are still cruelty free.”

The three products:

Yu-Be is also available at Sephora and Sephora.com and The DermStore.com

Yu-Be Heel & Elbow Moisturizing Socks

Do you have dry, cracked heels or elbows? I highly recommend this product!

One pair per box in one size.

The socks are made with a bacteria-absorbing material that is also hypoallergenic. The socks can be reused, simply hand wash and hang up to dry.

Here’s how I used them for the “Yu-Be Nighttime Moisturizing Treatment.”

After washing and drying my heels, I applied Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream, and then covered them with the Socks.

The next morning my heels were as smooth as can be! No more dry, cracked heels! Two great products (the Moisturizing Skin Cream is reviewed below).

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream 1.25oz (33g) tube

In case you’re not sure, Yu-Be is pronounced, “YOO-BEE.” The ingredients are based on the original 50 year old formula that was invented by the Japanese pharmacist, Yoshikiyo Nowatari. It is the #1 selling medicated, vitamin-enriched cream in Japan.

This is a Glycerin-based cream that is enriched with Vitamin E and Vitamin B2. The skin cream contains no artificial colors, fragrances or petrolatum.

Ingredients:

Glycerin, Water, Isopropyl Myristate, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Triethanolamine, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Camphor, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Hydrogenated coco-glycerides, Stearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 80, EDTA, Methylparaben, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Sodium Hyaluronate.

While the label states that it can be used “anywhere on the body – even the face and lips,” I only tested it on my hands, legs, elbows and heels.

This is the cream that I put on my heels, and then used the moisturizing socks (reviewed above).

The company notes that the cream does not have SPF, therefore, it does not provide any sun protection.

Yu-Be is a true multi-tasker. Here are some of the ways Yu-Be has suggested you may use it:

*to smooth rough, dry patches on hands, elbows, knees, and feet.

*to soften and reduce tough calluses, including hard, cracked heels

*to help heal and prevent split cuticles

*to replenish lost moisture from water damage or frequent hand washing

*to help heal and minimize scarring from burns

*to protect and moisturize skin exposed to cold, wind, and water.

*to protect against diaper rash and frost bite

The only objection that some may have is that that there is a camphor scent. On the plus side to camphor: it is very effective at soothing skin irritations!

Yu-Be Lip Therapy

This is an all natural lip balm and contains no artificial flavors or colors.

Ingredients:

Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Cera alba (Beeswax), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Camphor, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera), Eupatorium Rebaudianum Bertoni (Stevia) Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Leaf Extract).

The lip balm is excellent for moisturizing, healing and soothing dry chapped lips.

Please note that this product does not have SPF, therefore, it does not provide any sun protection.

It really worked wonderfully, and the only objection I had is that since it is camphor enriched (which helps to soothe irritations), some may not like the scent–but it does go away.

Grace Farm Organics’ Skincare

It’s unfortunate, but sometimes the little companies get overlooked simply because bigger companies have larger advertising budgets. I’d like you to consider one such small farm in Lynn, Massachusetts that creates all natural and organic skincare. Their philosophy is “with Your Good Health in Mind.”

I’d like to introduce you to Grace Farm Organics, located in Lynn, Massachusetts, where every one of their products is handcrafted in Massachusetts, and their ingredients are Organic, Sustainable and Fair Trade! Check their website and you will see that all of the products are very reasonably priced, and there is a flat-rate for shipping in the US.

Grace Farm Organics Twitter and Facebook

Grace Farm Organics is a family owned and operated business and one of the owners, Deb Scanlan, very generously sent several products for me to try. Their mission at Grace Farm Organics is:

“to create artisan soap, skin care, and household products using Organic and all Natural ingredients along with healing Herbs and Essential Oils. We will never use parabens, toxic preservatives or harsh chemicals in any of our products. If an ingredient is available in an Organic form, that is what we will use. We strive to honor the earth and give back more than we take.”

In fact, one of the many things that I love about Grace Farm Organics is that they state,  “All of the ingredients are listed on our labels, if an ingredient is available as a Fair Trade Product and in an Organic form that is what we will use. You will never find petroleum by-products, Isopropyl, formaldehydes, sulfates, parabens, propylene glycol, FD&C color pigments and any other ingredient that is suspected of causing harm to man or our environment.”

The first, pictured below, is the Gardener’s Working Hands Organic with Pumice and Apricot Kernel Meal.

Deb is a Certified Soapmaker, and I had envisioned showing a picture of my grubby hands gardening. However, there was a bizarre blizzard shortly before Halloween, and besides being without electricity for four days, that took care of planting any bulbs!

So, instead is the photo above, taken on November 29, 2011. This is actually a beautiful branch that fell after the storm!

Here’s how I got good and dirty and put the Gardener’s Working Hands soap to the test!

Moxie-leaf-blowing

Don’t ever say Moxie is vain. With the exception of the stylish monkey hat, I’d say I’m pretty “down to earth.” No pun intended.

When I washed my hands with this soap, I could feel the pumice and the apricot seeds really working to get the dirt and grime off my hands. Even though I wear gloves when doing a task like this, my hands still get filthy! Excellent soap that really exfoliates and smells lovely!

Deb will remind you that there is a huge difference between her handcrafted soap and commercial soap bars. The soaps from Grace Farm Organics are an Olive Oil and Shea Butter base and they contain only vegetable oils. Watch out with commercial bars; they usually contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate!

The next product I have been using is Grace Farm Organics’ Organic Shea Butter Skin Soothing Botanical Lotion.

This is not only a very soothing lotion, but it’s also, unscented! This Organic Lotion is infused with healing botanicals  Grace Farms Organics have taken organic extra virgin olive oil and triple infused it with organically grown local Comfrey, Calendula & St. Johns Wort. They have also added some Sea Buckthornberry Oil, Lavender and Helichrysm, and blended it all together with organic Sunflower Seed Oil and Nilotica Shea Butter. This is truly an outstanding Lotion!

Deb also sent one last product for me to test: Organic Shea Butter Lip Balm. Grace Farm Organics offers it in two types: Botanical Healing and Just Lip Balm. I was sent the Just Lip Balm, which may imply that it’s “ordinary,” so I would like to correct any thoughts you may have about that. The Just Lip Balm made my lips really super-smooth and moisturized. It’s no surprise, since here are the ingredients used to make the Lip Balm: a combination of organic shea butter, organic sweet almond oil, organic cocoa butter, and organic avocado oil; and then pulling it all together with organic bees wax.

KuK Organics Chocominty Caramel Lip Balm Review

KuK Organics

KuK Organics, a no-calorie, lip balm!

A full-size KuK Organics Caramel lip balm arrived in my mail, having won it. KuK Organics offers two lip balms, Kuk Lip Smoothie-Chocominty Caramel, which I received, and Luxuriously Creamy Chocolate Decadence, which I have not yet tried. Both are 100% organic, and even come with a funny warning: Do Not Eat!

KuK OrganicsKuK Organics has a mission is to provide you with products that have not been tested on animals (as is a requirement for being reviewed here on my website), they are free from parabens, sodium lauryl and laureth sulphates and artificial colors and fragrances.

To maintain quality and freshness, most of their products are handmade to order – with love.

KuK Organics is an eco friendly company, as they note on their website that they keep their packaging simple. They make an excellent point that, “a lot of big name brands in the market today spend a fortune on packaging. But what good does the packaging do for your skin?” KuK Organics goes on to write that they want customers to ask themselves “if the product is worth it…and is it safe?”

KuK Organics believes that whatever your skin problem is, nature has the answer, and their philosophy is that not only will they find a solution, but they will also do so without chemicals.

At the KuK Organics Website:

in addition to the lip balms, you will be able to look at and order organic facial treatments, and their therapeutic signature oil blends. In addition, you can read their skin care tips, and about the ten synthetic ingredients to avoid.

KuK Organics Chocominty Caramel Lip Balm uses all organic ingredients. It can be used simply as a balm, or as a lip base for a smooth application for your lip gloss or lipstick. Included in my KuK Organics lip balm package was an instruction sheet with directions to exfoliate and moisturize lips.

KuK Organics products can only be ordered online, but they do have a form on their website to contact KuK Organics, and a message will be send to the UK, where they are located.

You can follow KuK Organics on Twitter

It’s always nice to win something, but it’s another thing to actually like what you’ve won, be excited about using it, and actually look into the company and realize you would like to try more of their products. That’s how I feel about KuK Organics.
