Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Primer and Brightener

The Primer can be used as a primer before a makeup application. It can be used with or without your current moisturizer. In addition, the Primer can be used (on a freshly washed face) as a moisturizer before going to bed.

Using your fingertips, simply spread the primer evenly over your face until it is absorbed.

This is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, sensitivity tested, clinically tested, dermatologist tested. This is a personal preference aspect, but for those who do not wish to have a fragrance, I just want you to be aware that there is a very distinct grapefruit smell.

This product is gluten free; however, it is not Vegan, as it contains royal jelly.

The Primer did exactly as promised, “to even skin tone, minimize the appearance of pores and increase luminosity.” It most definitely made my pores almost invisible. The brightening is supposed to improve your skin tone with repeated use. So, while I’m not sure I’ve seen my skin “brightened” yet, I can write that the Primer left it smooth, and very moisturized. I would write that it was dewy, so if you have oily skin, I’m not sure that this would be an appropriate primer for you. It’s winter here on the east coast, so even though I would normally always use a moisturizer, I did not need one with the Primer. It was actually too much moisture for my skin, and it looked, too “dewy.”

I love the packaging! There is a seal over the opening of the Primer! I have not had a problem with squeezing just the amount of primer I want to use out of the tube. Yes, I guess the “downside” is that you’re not able to see how much is left in the tube.

Koh Gen Do Makeup Primer, in the color base yellow, is a purchase I made online at Sephora in the beginning of October, and I’m ready to give a full review. Koh Gen Do Makeup Primer is also available at their online store. This was not available in my local Sephora, that’s why I ordered online.

This review is for Koh Gen Do yellow base color only; this may not be appropriate for your skin needs or skin tone. The Koh Gen Do yellow base specifies it is for fair to medium skin tones. However, Koh Gen Do has three other base colors to check out: lavender pink, pearl white, and green. Each one is formulated for specific needs, but all are designed to “Set the Stage for Flawless Skin”

Koh Gen Do Makeup Primer claims to be able to help with?

To set the “stage for perfect high definition makeup” Koh Gen Do Makeup Primer diffuse diffuse redness, brighten and controls uneven skin tones, hides blemishes, minimizes pores, and smooths the appearance of the skin. Also provides UV protection.

Everything that Koh Gen Do Makeup Primer claims to be able to do, is accurate.

I love that the Primer is in a tube. Just squeeze out what you need.

As many times as I tried to take a photo of before and after applying the Primer on my face, I felt my camera was not doing it justice. So, instead, I’ll show you first what the yellow base Primer looks like on my arm.

There is too much product!!

Very important! I in no way put this large amount of product on my face. It’s just easier to show you a large swatch. In fact, although the Koh Gen Do Makeup Primer is $48.00 (Net Wt. 0.88 oz. / 25 g), it is very economical, as only a small amount is needed. Apply a thin, sheer layer on areas that you want to address. Tap lightly into your skin to blend. Koh Gen Do warns that if you use too much/ too many layers of the product, it will not only gather in creases, but it will not stabilize your foundation if you apply that after.

Despite applying way too much of the Primer in the previous photo, I blended it into my forearm (photo above). It spreads very easily, as it’s very silky. The photo above is a closeup camera shot, and under a very bright light, too. This is an attempt to show what my experience was in “real life,” with the Koh Gen Do Primer. On my face, it always makes my pores look almost undetectable, and allows me to either just add some blush, or, when I apply foundation, the Koh Gen Do Primer creates a very smooth surface. It’s also great to use under my eyes to cover my dark circles.

What else is wonderful about the Koh Gen Do Primer? It has botanical extracts, and in addition to being very moisturizing, has an SPF16 factor for some sun protection. I am not suggesting you use this as your only protection against the sun’s rays. Especially, as you are not covering your whole face!

There is nothing that I don’t love about this primer. Again, yellow may not work for you, so check out the other three colors available. Here is Koh Gen Do photo of all four primer colors.
