Dr. Mandel: Shampoo, Conditioner & Argan Gloss

This is such a pleasure for me to write about the launch of three new cruelty free products from Dr. Mandel, a Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Mandel established F.A.C.E., Foundation for the Advancement of College Education. 100 percent of the profits from the products go to F.A.C.E. Scholarship fund, which helps to send needy students to college. More information on that can be found at facescholarship.org.

I’ve written about Dr. Mandel Beauty Products before, and now he has added to his Collection with the following that can be used by both men and women: Dr. Mandel Antioxidant Shampoo, Dr. Mandel Antioxidant Conditioner, and Dr. Mandel Anti-Aging Argan Gloss.

Dr. Mandel

Dr. Mandel Antioxidant Shampoo

Dr. Mandel advertises his Antioxidant Shampoo as being, “The Best Shampoo in the World.” That’s because there are so many reasons to love this (and not just because all the proceeds go towards needy students!).  It’s sulfate, paraben and formaldehyde-free. It is not only volumizing, but also incredibly moisturizing! That’s because there are no many wonderful, natural ingredients in the formula:

  •     keratin
  •     argan (Moroccan)
  •     coconut
  •     olive oil
  •     rice hull extract
  •     wasabi extract
  •     citrus extracts
  •     antioxidants
  •     kalahari melon
  •     mongongo oil

Dr. Mandel

I have wavy hair, but this is for all hair types, and for both men and women. You will love it!

Various sizes are available, so check the Dr. Mandel Beauty Store.

Dr. Mandel Antioxidant Conditioner

This great Conditioner is so gentle that is safe for all hair types, and can also be used by those who color their hair! I found that my hair didn’t tangle and I did have less hair static. It’s no surprise that the conditioner made my hair feel so soft given all the ingredients in the formula:

  • keratin
  • olive oil
  • honey
  • rice hull extract
  • wasabi extract
  • citrus extracts
  • vitamins B3 & E
  • antioxidants
  • amino acids
  • bilberry oil

Dr. Mandel

It’s sulfate, paraben and formaldehyde-free; and once again, all profits go to sending needy students to college (facescholarship.org).  Can’t think of a thing anyone wouldn’t like about the Conditioner. All sizes available at  Dr. Mandel Beauty Store.

Dr. Mandel Anti-Aging Argan Gloss

The Gloss is an anti-aging styling product with a patented formulation of Argan Oil, Olive Oils, Vitamins and Glycerin.

Dr. Mandel

I experimented by using the Gloss on both my wet and dry hair. In each case, I needed only a very small amount of the Gloss to achieve a lovely shine, and add volume and shine to my hair. It also was helpful to tame some loose pieces that were “fly-away” due to the humid weather. The Gloss can be used to repair all types of hair: frizzy, dry, thin, dull, thick, curly or straight, and split ends. It also may be safely used on all hair colors. In addition, the Gloss will protect your hair from the heat and the sun’s rays!  This is avaiable in one size of 3 FL oz. at Mandel Beauty Products.

My hair was very soft, which I attribute to my use of Dr. Mandel’s whole range of  Antioxidant and Anti-Aging Shampoo, Conditioner and Gloss.

Have great looking hair and support education by buying Mandel Beauty Products!

Absolutely no cons at all!

Remember that 100% of proceeds from all of the beauty products support sending needy students to college! (The F.A.C.E. Scholarship Fund)

What does Henna Color Lab Offer?

At their website, you will find Henna Hair and Beard Dye, and also Shampoo and Conditioner. The website also gives very detailed instructions on how to use their all natural dye. Henna Color Lab info on Sulfates:

Before I write about the Henna Color Lab Shampoo and Conditioner, I want to make sure that everyone knows what sulfates are. This is important to know, whether or not you color your hair!

This is from the Henna Color Lab website:

“What are Sulfates? Sulfates are detergents (lather makers) used in many cosmetic products: shampoos and soaps. The main nasty to avoid is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). Sulfates can irritate the skin and scalp with regular use. Many blame SLS for the rise in dry skin disorders and dandruff problems. The detergents are just too strong for regular use; they simply yank all natural, protective oils from the skin and hair. These detergents are used often in industrial products, and although they may clean the toilet bowl well at the mall, you don’t want them on your skin, scalp, and hair. Additionally, their harsh cleansing power just strips the color out of your hair well before its natural cycle. Use only organic, plant-based shampoos (coconut oil, olive oil, & sunflower seed oil detergents) if you want max color with zero side effects.”

So, check the labels on your shampoo and soaps!!

Henna Color Lab Shampoo and Conditioner

These products are designed to work with the Henna Color Lab products, but anyone, whether you color your hair or not, can benefit from using their Shampoo and Conditioner. That’s why I was delighted to be able to try these two products:

Henna Color Lab

Henna Color Lab Clean Minty Mix Organic Shampoo

You don’t need a lot of shampoo to get great bubbles. That’s really amazing to me because it’s all organic plant-based surfactants (the bubble-makers). I love that it can also be used as a body wash and a shaving cream.

In addition to being free of sulfates, it also does not contain parabens, phthalates, or synthetics of any kind (that means there are no synthetic perfumes)! It smells great naturally with a combination of peppermint and spearmint essential oil.

Henna Color Lab

Ingredients: cocos nucifera (Coconut Oil)*, olea europaea (Olive Oil)*, helianthus annuus (Sunflower Seed Oil)*, butyrospermum parkii (Shea Butter)*, Proprietary Essential Oil Blend: Peppermint Essential Oil*, Spearmint Essential Oil*, potassium hydroxide, glycerin, guar gum, Aloe Vera*,  rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary Extract)*, citric acid.    *Oregon Tilth certified organic ingredient

There is also a Lavender-Geranium scent available.

Henna Color Lab Minty Mix Organic Conditioner

Just like the Shampoo, the Conditioner is free of sulfates, and does not contain parabens, phthalates, or synthetics of any kind (that means there are no synthetic perfumes)! It smells great naturally with a combination of peppermint and spearmint essential oil.
Henna Color Lab

This was exactly as advertised. It was very moisturizing, and therefore, I no tangles in my hair when combing my hair through. Using the Shampoo and the Conditioner, I felt my hair was left with a nice shine.

Ingredients: Aloe juice*, Lavender*, Roman Chamomile*,  Castor oil*, cetearyl alcohol, stearalkonium chloride, phenoxyethanol, hydrolyzed wheat protein, Proprietary Essential Oil Blend: Peppermint oil*, Spearmint oil*, pro-vit. Henna Color Lab Hair Dye

In addition to the shampoo and conditioner that are reviewed above, you should check out Henna Color Lab for their hair dye. Not interested in having ingredients such as ammonia, metallic salts, and harsh chemicals, in your hair dye?! Henna Color Lab has all natural, hair dyes. The hair dye permanently bonds with your hair, it doesn’t just chemically coat it.

Below is a photo of the Pure Henna Hair Color. However, there are many colors to choose from for the women’s hair dye, and the same colors are offered for men’s hair.

Henna Hair Lab

Men can also use it for their beard, eye brows, side burns, and mustache.

Henna Color Lab

Henna Color Lab

All henna hair dye can be safely mixed if you wish to combine colors.

Henna Color Lab henna is 100% Pure, Body-Art Quality. This is the base for all of their hair dyes. It is super-fine, triple-sifted texture, and the color will lasts for weeks. Did you know that Henna has been a hair color & treatment for over 5000 years?

Ingredients: 100% Lawsonia inermis linn (Rājasthān Select Harvest™ Natural Henna). That’s it. Henna adds sheen and luster to hair and balances out your own natural highlights and undertones.

Henna Color Lab

Cons of Henna Color Lab?

Only downside is the fact that Henna Color Lab sells exclusively online. However, here is their explanation:
“If we sold in retail chains our products would sell for twice the price. By distributing directly to you, we can cut out many middle men, keep costs lean, and still maintain a stable profit to keep sourcing high-quality, all natural ingredients. Most retail chains strong-arm smaller manufacturers with crippling NO-profit margins (online retailers too). As a result, many manufacturers begin to implement inferior, cheaper ingredients to drive down costs—simply to stay in favor with the big chain retailers. Invariably, the product declines in quality and the customer suffers—happens all the time in this industry.”

LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo Review

LUSH Cosmetics:

“Order Me A Pint of Beer…For My Hair!”

I purchased a LUSH Cosmetics shampoo called Cynthia Sylvia Stout. LUSH Cosmetics. I wanted to try this shampoo as I have read that beer is good for your hair if you use one that has ale hops and yeast.  Well, I am here to report that it is not a myth, and LUSH has formulated Cynthia Stout with organic vegan stout beer from a local brewery, and it contains protein to give your hair weight, smoothness, and a really beautiful shine. What they told me in the LUSH store was that this is the shampoo to use if you have hair that gets frizzy-looking when there is damp or humid weather conditions. This shampoo, though, can be used for all hair types.

LUSH Cosmetics

LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout sizes and prices:

3.3 fl. oz is $9.95

8.4 fl. oz is $19,95

16.9 fl. oz is $29.95

This LUSH Cosmetics product is Vegan, which means that it does not contain animal products of any kind. As you might expect, the shampoo does have the smell of a fine ale. However, LUSH does add fresh organic lemon juice, lemongrass oil, and cognac oil, to provide a richer and very pleasant aroma overall.

LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout Ingredients:

Stout (Beer), Water (Aqua), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Fine & Coarse Sea Salt (Sodium chloride), Lauryl Betaine, Propylene Glycol, Benzyl Alcohol, Fresh Organic Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum), Cognac Oil (Vitis Vinifera), Lemongrass Oil (Cymbopogon citratus), Balsamic Vinegar, Yeast Infusion (Yeast betaglucan), *Citral ,*Geraniol , Perfume, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

Almost finished with the bottle! (My husband and son also love the shampoo and use it.)

LUSH Cosmetics

I love that LUSH Cosmetics products have the photo on the back of the product with the person who made it and the date. Also, the date of expiration.

lush cosmetics label

What I love about LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Stout:

  • Cruelty Free
  • Vegan
  • It’s for all hair types, but especially beneficial for taming the frizzes!
  • For all scalps because yeast improves the health of the hair and scalp and is said to encourages new hair growth.
  • Will add lots of shine!
  • As it did for mine, I’m sure it will give your hair lots of added volume
  • The shampoo lathers up really quickly!
  • The organic beer is local to the LUSH Vancouver manufacturing facility

Cons for LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout?

Yes, I really wish that it did not contain Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate.

In case you were wondering:

My children and I love Shel Silverstein! One of his poems is about a girl who refused to take the garbage out, and her name was: Cynthia Sylvia Stout. That’s where LUSH got the name for their shampoo (along with the clever play on words with “Stout” in the name and beer in the shampoo).

Cruelty free nuNAAT Chocolat Special Hair Care

The cruelty free nuNAAT Chocolat Special hair care will be reviewed in today’s post.  Their catchy phrase? “Who said chocolate is just for eating?” This hair care company does have several product lines, but I  selected the nuNAAT Chocolat Special for “Guilt-free Satisfaction.” This hair care line has a combination of cocoa butter and Brazil nuts, and the line is suitable for all hair types, including chemically processed hair.

Twitter    Facebook

Consider the Benefits of nuNAAT Chocolat Special:

The cocoa butter benefits your hair with antioxidants.

There are vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E and it’s rich in minerals.

The Brazil nuts contain selenium, for healthy hair and scalp.

Delivers healthy nutrients to hair follicles!

nuNAAT Creamy Chocolat Shampoo (8.4 oz)

This shampoo may be used daily to provide moisture for healthy, shiny hair. The smell is, of course, of chocolate. I love chocolate and found the shampoo to be really terrific.

To use, simply massage into wet hair (don’t rub!), lather, rinse thoroughly, and repeat if needed. This does contain sodium laureth sulfate.

nuNAAT Creamy Chocolat Conditioner (8.6 0z)

Having cocoa butter and Brazil nuts in this product means that hydrating nutrients are helping your hair to leave it moisturized and tangle-free. Use the Conditioner regularly, after shampooing on still wet hair. Leave on for two minutes, then rinse.

nuNAAT Chocolat Thermo Active Anti-Frizz (5.2 oz)

nuNAAT Chocolat Thermo Active Anti-Frizz (5.2 oz)

Experiment for the amount that is needed. You don’t want too much product, or your hair will look greasy!  Start with a pea size amount and then keep adding as necessary. This worked as promised. The heat activated anti-frizz formula worked beautifully for blow-drying my hair.  I had shiny hair, and a smooth finish!

nuNAAT Chocolat Special Cream Hair Mask (17.6 oz)

This can be used twice a month to revitalize hair, and to maintain your healthy hair. This is used after shampooing

You can imagine the nice big chocolate smell coming from this large tub! It’s very thick and feels very luxurious!

The hair mask should be left on freshly washed hair for up to twenty minutes. That’s to not only add moisture to your hair, but also to repair the hair fibers.

I wish…

While nuNAAT has a list of ingredients on the back of each product, I wish that they were also listed on the website. There are ingredients that are found in their products, but that doesn’t help to know about each individual product before you head for the store. However, the big fact that they don’t test on animals outweighs that criticism.

nuAAT has a wide range of products for all hair types and textures. The Chocolat products were all great for my hair, and I would definitely want to check out their other Collections!

Where To Find nuNAAT: Click on this link to see where you can purchase; you can also put your zip code in and find a store near you. If you live outside of the U.S. and can’t locate the products, contact dialogue@nunaat.com, and let them know.

LAID Brand Haircare Products

Want to try a terrific, cruelty free hair care line that also has a sense of humor?

Look no further than the company that sent samples of three of their products to review…LAID Brand Haircare Products

“Shady Girl shampoo is perfectly safe for your mom; although you may want to keep an eye on her.”

Shady Girl Conditioner is, “clean, refreshing, uplifting, energizing and has an INTENSE cooling effect not for the faint of heart.”

“If LAID BRAND made this oil any lighter, the bottles would float away,” They’re describing Mo Rockin’ Oil.

All joking aside, LAID is a professional hair care line developed by celebrity hair stylist David L. Hensley. David comes from a family of artists and stylists. His fifteen years in the haircare industry, treating each client’s cut, style, and procedure as a work of art, is the spirit and inspiration behind the LAID brand. David saw a gap in the professional haircare product marketplace and wanted to create a brand that “conveyed and delivered the lifestyle of passion, artistic expression, creativity and confidence.”

(Photo of David L. Hensley above)

Connect with LAID: Facebook and Twitter

I asked one of the LAID co-founder’s, Derek, “What is the origin behind the LAID Haircare name?”

The origins of our name are actually inspired by a single product, LAID Pomade. It was the first product David and Adam (now a co-founder and CEO of LAID) created prior to the formation of LAID brand.  It was meant to be sexy, primarily for Men, and it had very limited appeal, especially with women (David’s Primary Client Base). The name, however, did resonate with the consumers we were trying to attract. It turned some people off, but that was ok, because they probably won’t get it for a while, but early adapters, trend setters, and people with confidence did get it. It was this feedback that encouraged us to keep the name. Often times, brands have to be overly sexual in their branding and imagery to communicate how their consumer “should” feel about the brand.  This allows us to be unexpectedly focused on creating pieces of art with our imagery and convey confidence brought out by our model, rockstar, athlete, and artist models.”

How is LAID brand different from other celebrity haircare brands?

“LAID Brand Professional Hair Care is not just a brand, it’s a lifestyle. Yes, we have something nobody else has (Pherottraction technology), and our formula’s are second to none, but our essence is rooted in the artful expression of our imagery which embodies our core consumers. Quite simply, we describe the lifestyle as where the model meets rock star, and where the athlete meets artists. Our lifestyle is provocative, unexpected, and empowering. David is this lifestyle. He lives it and breathes it every day, and that is something nobody else can replicate.”

The three LAID Brand products are without harmful ingredients, are paraben and sulfate free, and have Pherottraction™. The pheromone-enhanced products are to “increase your natural appeal.”

Does LAID have scientific proof that Pherottraction works?

Derek responds:

“Complex pheromone blend that is Pherottraction, has been tested and validated by 3rd party academic institutions. Disclosing the exact references would reveal some trade secrets, however, our FAQ page on our website articulates how synthetic pheromones work.”

LAID’s shampoo, Shady Girl, is advertised as being able to “eliminate build-up and controls frizz, without stripping color, while adding strength, smoothness, and shine.” It has added SPF to protect your hair from fading in the sun’s rays, smells great, and has really super lather, despite being sulfate free! My only issue is with the pump. It was difficult to get shampoo to dispense, so I found myself simply taking the pump out of the container and not using it. No big deal. That’s the only “con” I have, as I love the shampoo and would highly recommend it.

The conditioner, like the shampoo, smells great! It has coconut oil, avocado, and olive oil. The formula is nice and thick and rich and, unlike the shampoo, I had no difficulty with this pump.

Derek helped me to describe the wonderful fragrances of the shampoo and conditioner.

“For the shampoo, we wanted to emulate the fragrance of a cocoa butter after it has been applied to skin. Once applied fragrance becomes a bit sweeter, which was difficult to do however, our fragrance house was able to achieve it.

The conditioner is the same fragrance with the addition of menthol to provide an intense cooling sensation on the scalp which also acts as a great delivery system for the pheromones. The conditioner gives amazing self-effects to the user while showering.”

Mo Rockin’ Oil does exactly as advertised: “conditions, controls frizz, and creates shine.” Terrific!

There’s no question this is a quality hair care line, but what about the Pherottraction? My husband loved the smell. Did I have other men telling me I smelled good? Uh-no. Perhaps it’s because I’m not giving off any I’m “available” vibes. I’ll let the single readers be the judge of that when they try the products.

My hair did look and feel “PHEROfabulous,” so I most definitely recommend the Laid Brand hair care line.
