Milani Coming Up Roses: Thoughts

The Warm Petal Blush has a little bit of shimmer, which is nice.  The Warm Petals is just as advertised. It is a silky-soft powder and it applied very nicely onto my cheeks.  I found that it was very pigmented–although you can wear it more sheer depending on your preference. I applied the Warm Petals blush early in the morning, and it stayed put for at least eight hours.

With this color, it would be excellent for contouring or for a bronzer, in addition, to simply being used as a blush.

Loved that this brown blush had a little shimmer in it and that the formula is terrific; and, again, you can’t beat that price of $6.49 for .60 ounces!

Benecos Natural Powder Blush and Natural Eyeshadow

Benecos is 100% vegan, cruelty free, and gluten free! Benecos was founded in Germany in 2008, and their goal was to make high quality, natural cosmetics available to all. Benecos didn’t want affordable prices and high quality, natural cosmetics to be a contradiction! I have written about other Benecos products in previous posts: Benecos Nail Polish and True Beauty Box Cruelty Free Cosmetics & Skin Care

Today’s post is about two more of their excellent products: a blush and an eyeshadow. Both are extremely pigmented and considering they are certified as cruelty free and organic, I believe they are very fairly priced.

True Beauty Box Cruelty Free Skin Care & Cosmetics

True Beauty Box

I’m really excited to share with you the newest True Beauty Box. The review of the previous Box can be found at this link: True Beauty Box Cruelty Free Cosmetics & Skin Care

True Beauty Box

True Beauty Box is for you if…

True Beauty Box is for you if you love to try different natural and cruelty free cosmetics and skin care!  This monthly service launched in December of 2012. Unlike other beauty boxes, where you may or may not receive items that are cruelty free, Love True Natural is the company that is running the True Beauty Box. Love True Natural is a 100% natural and cruelty free beauty company.

While I strongly recommend that everyone always double-check, True Beauty Box does guarantee that all of the products that members receive in their True Beauty Box will be free of Parabens, PEG, Phthalates, Petrochemicals, and synthetic colors.

Every month the True Beauty Box will contain three to four FULL size products, (this month there are four), plus you will receive samples.  In addition, True Beauty Box members will have exclusive access to sales and special prices on the Love True Natural website.

It starts by completing a beauty profile quiz at, and then choosing the style of box you want (Flirt, Veganista, or Indulge). After the quiz you simply submit the information, and your box will arrive soon.

As a member, you will receive a “sneak peak” of each beauty profile on the 12th of each month. True Beauty Box strives to make you happy, and they want to make certain that you’re going to love what you receive.  Therefore, you not only don’t have to make a commitment, but each month you have the option to re-take the beauty quiz for a different beauty profile and box style. Of course, there is also the option to skip, or cancel by the 15th of each month. The only thing that you need to remember is that after the initial charge (for your first Box), you will automatically be charged on the 16th of each month if you do not notify them.

Of the three options, Flirt and Veganista are both currently $30; Indulge is $40. The Beauty Box that I received is as follows:

True Beauty Box with Benecos Natural Baked Colour Eyeshadow

Benecos eyeshadow

The gluten free eyeshadow in Chocolate is gorgeous! The formula is really smooth, and that’s because the organic plant oils provide a creamy application. You can apply the eyeshadow wet or dry, depending on the effect you want. Since they are baked, Benecos writes that their mineral shadow won’t crumble or shatter.

I love the sparkles. I think it’s just the right amount for a nice elegant look. I used eye shadow primer and the eye shadow stayed put, even with a trip to the gym (see the end of the post for picture).

True Beauty Box with Benecos Natural Kajal Eye Liner

Benecos eyeliner

This is a gluten free, matte black kohl pencil that is nice and creamy, and I had no trouble with thick or thin lines. It’s no surprise, since they are formulated with organic plant oils and pure minerals. Use along upper and lower lash lines.

Benecos eye liner pencils are safe for those who wear contact lenses. I applied primer on my eyelids, and this eye liner lasted– even with a trip to the gym (see photo at the end of the post).

True Beauty Box with Benecos Maximum Length Mascara

This gluten free mascara is in the color carbon black.

Benecos mascara

This naturally hydrating Super Long Lash Mascara adds length and carbon black tone to lashes without any chemicals. With Vitamin E.

 Benecos mascara

I liked that the mascara did add some length to my lashes, and I liked the wand. Here’s a swatch of the black color:

The mascara is made with organic Jojoba, sunflower oils, and Vitamin E for hydration. I wore the mascara to the gym and the photo is at the end of the post.

True Beauty Box with Benecos Baked Blush

This gluten free, mineral blush is baked for color so that it lasts. The ingredients of Cupuau butter and Sacha Inchi oil will keep skin hydrated and provide anti-aging benefits.

Benecos blush

I received coral, one of the two colors that the blush is available in:

 Benecos blush

The shimmery coral color is recommended for fair to medium skin tones.

Benecos blush

Here is a great visual from Love True Natural for how to apply:

Round Face Shape

Apply directly to the cheek bones as flat as possible.

rouge square

Square Face Shape

Apply the rouge between the hairline and cheeks. To begin at the far end of the cheek bone, apply the rouge in one stroke down gently and run out to leave the temples. So the distinctive shape of the face looks softer.

rouge oval

Oval Face Shape

Apply the rouge near the top approximatelly at the level of the temples and run diagonally to the corners of the mouth down. This gives the face more contour.

Heart Face Shape

Begin in the middle of the cheeks: Apply blush and run out from there to the temples.

True Beauty Box with Lavera Foundation

The following are two (2 ml) sample sizes of the Lavera Trend Sensitive Organic Natural Liquid Foundation

 Love True Natural Foundation

Porcelain 01- is for fair -yellowish undertones

Love True Natural Foundation

Ivory 02- is for fair -medium rose undertone

Love True Natural

Lavera Trend Sensitive Organic Natural Liquid Foundation is Vegan Society Certified. It is designed to lightly cover your imperfections. This is not a heavy foundation! It contains organic oils with conditioning properties, Vitamins A, C and E to help fight against free radicals. The Foundations have been tested by dermatologists and ophthalmologists.

I decided to put the mascara, eyeshadow and eyeliner to the test. I worked out at the gym and this is the after shot:

Youngblood Cosmetics & Breast Cancer Awareness

October is national Breast Cancer Awareness month, and from October 11- 31, 2012, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of one of their products, the Crushed Mineral Blush, to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.

The three shades available are Dusty Pink, Sherbet and Tulip. They are each $22.00 USD for 0.10 oz.

Youngblood Cosmetics products are, of course, cruelty free, and they are made without talc, oil, parabens, artificial fragrances, or dyes.

How did Youngblood Cosmetics choose The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation?

It’s an organization that works to eradicate breast cancer, and improve the quality of women’s health through innovative research, education and advocacy. Dr. Susan Love and her team stand for many of the same principles our company upholds, including not testing on animals,” says President
and CEO, Pauline Youngblood, who is a breast cancer survivor herself. “We admire their vision and are proud to support them in their goals.”

There is a sifter to dispense the Crushed Mineral Blush:

Swatches of Sherbet and Tulip. Click to enlarge.

Sherbet is a gold-laced pink-peach. Shimmer. Youngblood reports this is one of their top sellers.

Tulip is a sheer baby doll pink. Satin

Dusty Pink, I did not receive, but it is described as, “a sweet shell pink.” Satin

Ingredients:  Mica (CI 77019), Zinc Stearate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Kaolin, Dimethicone. May Contain: Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Carmine (CI 75470), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

My thoughts: I love that a portion of the sales will be donated to breast cancer research!

The Blush colors can not only be used on your cheeks and temples, but it is safe to also be used on your eyes and lips! For the lips, Youngblood advises mixing or blending into a lip gloss or lip balm.

You can build coverage very easily with the Crushed Mineral Blush.

Youngblood designed the shades to work on all skin tones.

The mineral blush is housed in a sifter, so there’s no mess.

Cons: Nothing. If you don’t want a shimmer (Sherbet) then choose a Satin: Dusty Pink and Tulip.

Where to find the Crushed Mineral Blush:

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics website, NewBeauty at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, California; Henri Bendel in New York; select spas and salons; or by calling Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics at (800) 216-6133.
