Jinous Nouri, is the creator of MOOM. Jinous, a chemist, was tired of being burnt when waxing, and she also didn’t want her daughters to use wax, chemicals or artificial ingredients on their skin. She therefore set out to develop a different type of hair removal system.

MOOM has been on the market since 1990, and here’s what the MOOM Organic Hair Removal kit with Tea Tree looks like:

18 washable and reusable Fabric Strips;  4 wooden applicators; 6 oz. (170 g) 100% Natural Hair Remover

MOOM writes that the product can be used on the face, underarms, legs, bikini area – anywhere there is unwanted hair.

There are many methods to remove unwanted hair. There’s plucking, depilatory creams, shaving, threading, laser hair removal, electrolysis and some prescription medications. Each has pros and cons.

How is MOOM different?

The only ingredients in MOOM are:

organic can sugar

organic chamomile tea

organic lemon juice

organic tea tree oil

MOOM writes this:

“MOOM is designed to remove impurities and dead skin cells from the skin surface so skin feels softer and smoother with each use. It removes only the hair, not the skin. It does not break hair at the surface but delicately removes it with the root.”

I have had my legs professionally waxed before and while I didn’t have any disasters of having skin removed with the unwanted hair, many people have. The only word of the above quote that I would have to disagree with is the one I have italicized, “delicately.”  While I highly recommend MOOM, I’m not going to write that my hair was removed from the root, “delicately.” It hurt! Did it hurt “a lot?” Well that, of course, depends on your pain threshold. To give you an idea, though, and compare it to my waxing experience, on a pain scale of 0-10, 0 being no pain, 10 being very painful, waxing, for me, was a “9″, while using MOOM was a “4-5.”

MOOM cautions that if you are using Alpha Hydroxy, Retinol, or Glycolic Acid Products regularly, consult your physician before using any hair removal product!

Directions for using MOOM:

While the instructions are simple, and contained in the box, you need to make sure to read them (and I’m not being sarcastic).

To make sure that you don’t have any irritation, do a patch test on the area on which you want to use MOOM.

MOOM points this out: “2 week rule: previously shaved hair is strong & resistant. Wait approximately 2 weeks for a 1/4” (1/2 cm) growth before first use.”

Do not overheat the product in the glass container. MOOM is not supposed to be hot like wax gets!

If you have coarse, stray hairs, MOOM recommends that you apply a pea-sized amount of the product on them, and you don’t warm the product before you applying the strips.

My Thoughts:

Was it easy to use on my legs? Yes! My legs felt smoother and moisturized after using MOOM. The fabric strips are made of polycotton and I think it’s great I can keep reusing them.  Because the product is water-soluble, that means that not only is it easily washed off from the fabric strips, but I was happy to not have any residue left on my skin!

MOOM does write, “if you are a first-time user, some skin sensitivity may occur, but it will decrease with subsequent use as hair weakens. The skin may turn pink & spotty after hair removal, but should disappear within a few hours.”

As per the above the above description, the skin on my legs did turn pink and spotty, but by the morning, all looked fine. After I used MOOM, I washed my legs with warm water, and, as MOOM wrote that nothing else was needed, I put nothing on my skin to test. 

Cons:  You’re going to have some pain involved with ripping hair out from the root. Of course, by removing by the root, it enables you to be hair-free for many weeks—individual results would vary as to the number of weeks you’ll be hair-free.

Without hesitation, I would highly recommend you consider trying MOOM Hair Removal.
