LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo Review

LUSH Cosmetics:

“Order Me A Pint of Beer…For My Hair!”

I purchased a LUSH Cosmetics shampoo called Cynthia Sylvia Stout. LUSH Cosmetics. I wanted to try this shampoo as I have read that beer is good for your hair if you use one that has ale hops and yeast.  Well, I am here to report that it is not a myth, and LUSH has formulated Cynthia Stout with organic vegan stout beer from a local brewery, and it contains protein to give your hair weight, smoothness, and a really beautiful shine. What they told me in the LUSH store was that this is the shampoo to use if you have hair that gets frizzy-looking when there is damp or humid weather conditions. This shampoo, though, can be used for all hair types.

3.3 fl. oz is $9.95

However, LUSH does add fresh organic lemon juice, lemongrass oil, and cognac oil, to provide a richer and very pleasant aroma overall.

Cons for LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout?

Yes, I really wish that it did not contain Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate.

In case you were wondering:

My children and I love Shel Silverstein! One of his poems is about a girl who refused to take the garbage out, and her name was: Cynthia Sylvia Stout. That’s where LUSH got the name for their shampoo (along with the clever play on words with “Stout” in the name and beer in the shampoo).

Badger Seabuckthorn Hair Oil is Cruelty Free

Badger Seabuckthorn Hair Oil

For All Hair Types!

Badger Balm Hair Oil

Badger Hair Care:

Badger has these goals for their hair care line: “Enhance the beauty, luster and body of hair by using natural, nourishing products that work in harmony with the whole body.”

If someone has healthy hair, it looks shiny and bright. The science behind that is that light reflects from its smooth surface. The opposite of that is having damaged hair: an uneven, rough surface that makes the hair look dull. When an oil that is nourishing is worked into the hair, it starts to provide protection from chemicals, heat and UV damage. It starts to look healthy again.

Badger

The Seabuckthorn Hair Oil is for all hair types.

The glass bottle of Seabuckthorn Oil, is full of ruby red Seabuckthron Extract, then it’s blended with Apricot Oil, Pomegranate Oil, as well as Sunflower Oil.

Seabuckthorn Hair Oil, with Apricot and Pomegranate Oil, promotes hair strength and elasticity. It is rich in Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K.

Apricot Oil will add moisture and shine to your hair cuticle (rich in Vitamins A, C, and E).

Pomegranate Oil contains high levels of antioxidants, and helps to promote the regeneration and strengthening of your hair (rich in Vitamins B and C).

Vitamin E protects the hair from free radical damage, and brings out your hair’s natural shine and luster.

Badger Hair Oil is 100% natural. No artificial fragrance, color, synthetic ingredients, mineral oil, silicone or silicone derivatives, or harsh ingredients.

Rosehip (Rosa Canina) possesses regenerative properties, helping hair to return to its healthiest state.

Badger

I received a half size sample, however, the full size is a 2 oz. glass bottle, and is priced at $18.99. There is a citrus aroma.

Directions for use:

Step 1: Apply the Seabuckthorn Oil evenly to clean, dry hair. Experiment as to the amount that you will need depending on your hair type and length. Start off with one pump and add more as needed.
Step 2: Massage the Oil into your hair and scalp. Work from the roots to the tips. Use a comb or your fingers to ensure even distribution.
Step 3: Allow the Oil to soak into your hair for one hour or overnight. Badger gives the tip to use an old towel so you don’t stain your pillowcase.
Step 4: Shampoo and condition, and then style your hair.

My experience: I try to take good care of my hair, however, I am guilty of blow drying on a regular basis; sometimes I also use a straightening iron on my wavy hair! All things that can take a toll on the hair, no matter how much I try to kid myself, so I was very happy to be able to test out this natural oil.

It would depend on your hair, but I applied two-three full pumps of the Oil to my hair, and let it soak in overnight. As instructed, I did use a towel on my pillowcase in case it stained the pillowcase. Six hours later (not much sleep!) I shampooed my hair. The Oil rinses out very quickly, and I could already feel how extra soft my hair was during rinsing!

Since then, I have tested this Oil six times, and it still looks like I have plenty left. (Remember, I have a half size sample). My clothes are not stylish, but at least I have great looking hair! In fact, after using the Oil, it was always extra soft, and very, very shiny.  The smell is citrusy, with orange the predominant smell, and also rose geranium and lavender. It’s was not at all overpowering to my nose; and remember that’s sleeping with it in my hair, too!

Can’t come up with anything that I think someone wouldn’t like about the Badger Seabuckthorn Oil. There are other Badger hair oils that are available: Badger Jojoba Hair Oil (for dry scalp) and Badger Argan Hair Oil (for dry and damaged hair) that you may wish to try for your hair care needs. You can check those out at the Badger Website.

Herstyler: Nano Gold Ionic Straightening Iron

Herstyler Ionic Straightening Iron is a Folica exclusive, which was sent for review:

This one inch, professional straightening iron has many great features: titanium plates, which was excellent for smoothing my hair. It is advertised as having negative ion technology, which apparently eliminates static and frizz. While I received the Nano Gold, there is also an Ionic Silver colors on Folica. There is a 1 year limited warranty.

I like that there is a swivel cord!

What I didn’t like.

While the directions that came with the Nano Gold indicated that there is a variable temperature control; this is not true. I don’t know if it’s because I was sent an older model, or it’s a misprint.

This is the outside box:

There is only one control: OFF/ON (and a LED light indicator).

The Nano Gold reaches one temperature: 460 Degrees Fahrenheit. This high a heat may not work for everyone’s hair, and not having a variable control is both disappointing and surprising for a model that is selling on Folica at this time for $89.99.

UPDATE to the post!!  Shortly before I was to publish this, I received an email from a Representative at Folica. They were thankful and gracious! They agreed that there is no variable temperature control on this straightening iron. They wanted everyone to know that it is not Folica’s intention to mislead anyone, and they were were glad that I would let them, (and my readers know about this). The product description that they use on Folica is what is supplied to them the from the companies, in this case, by Herstyler.

Sircuit Skin: Lavish Multi-Use Dry Oil

LAVISH, a new, multi-use therapeutic dry oil, was sent to me for review by Sircuit Skin.

I received a 1/8 oz. amber vial sample–$7.50 (US)

What is Lavish?

Lavish is a light, dry oil, that quickly absorbed into my skin. It’s not shiny or greasy, and, I was excited to read the ingredients to see that it’s formulated with nine precious oils. There are so many uses for this oil, a list of benefits follows later in the post.

Lavish is free of artificial preservatives, colors, or fragrance, and phthalates. Of course, it is cruelty free.

Featured Ingredients:

Grape Seed Oil – Rich in linoleic acid, acts as an emollient, a lubricant, and an antioxidant.

Aleurites Moluccana Seed Oil (aka Kukui Nut Oil) – excellent source of gamma linoleic acid; smooths skin while moisturizing and protecting; used to treat dry, chapped, and irritated skin.

Organic Borage Oil – high concentration of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), an Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acid (EFA), anti-irritant, soothing.

Arctic Cranberry Oil – provides essential fatty acids and tocotrienols, for nourishing, moisturizing, and protecting skin.

Bitter Almond Oil – high levels of oleic acid, unsaturated triglycerides provide moisture, easily absorbed in skin.

Macadamia Nut Oil (Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil) – high in essential fatty acids, Is often used to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

Calophyllum Inophyllum Oil – stimulant for collagen synthesis for use in anti-wrinkle and anti-stretch mark products.

Neem Oil – For thousands of years Ayurvedic medicine has used Neem for skin care and to treat skin disorders, Moisturizing, rich in fatty acids and glycerides, promotes healing, antiseptic.

Lots of Benefits!

Without looking or feeling greasy, it leaves your skin glowing and luminous and feeling really smooth! It is suitable for all skin types.

The combination of botanical essential oils combat the signs of aging. The oils help to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

Lavish can be used on dry hair for the split end damage control.

For all skin types: the oil will stimulate collagen production.

Strengthens skin elasticity and structure.

Offers antioxidant rich protection.

Lavish can be used all year (in the East, where I live, that means all four seasons) to combat environmental dryness.

Sircuit Skin Suggestions Ways to Use:

Face: Apply to face or blend a drop of oil with your moisturizer or foundation, for a luminous glow.

Body:

Apply over arms and legs as needed.

A drop or two of Lavish may be added to your bath water.

Hair:

Use as a mask for dry hair, smooth over hair ends or add a drop in the palm of your hand and gently run through your hair for a natural effect.

For Best Results: Keep out of sunlight, and store away from any heat source in a cool, dark place.

There are so many ways to use Lavish; I highly recommend.
