Drew Barrymore Flower Cosmetics!

Drew Barrymore is a new Mom, Actress, Producer, and Director. Drew can now add the fact that she has her own cosmetics line called Flower. While Flower is being called a “premium” line, everything will be priced between $5 and $13.98. Flower will have lip, eye, face and nail products, and I can’t wait to get to Walmart to see everything is being offered at this time.
Flower has supplied this quote: “FLOWER is proudly made in the USA and never tested on animals.
Flower is available at Walmart stores and online, throughout the US.  However, before you make the trip to a Walmart store, you may want to call ahead. I went to a local Walmart this morning, and they did not yet have any products available. I was hoping to not only purchase products, but snap some photos to share with you of the display.
Although I didn’t arrive home with products, or even a photo, at least I was able to have a cup of coffee and enjoy reading my copy of the New York Times article,  From Celebrity to Entrepreneur.

The first Celebrity mentioned in the article is, of course, Drew! Here’s some of what was in the paper:

“…If your eyes are already rolling at the latest celebrity makeup promotion, so too were Ms. Barrymore’s famous hazel peepers.”

“I hate it when it’s just a name on that, or they weren’t involved in every aspect or I didn’t know they even liked that or even cared,” she said. “Things are so personal to me; I work on them infinite percent.”

To demonstrate her commitment, Ms. Barrymore said she has hit “pause” on just about everything else in her career, including her production company, Flower Films. This is partly because she is a new mother (to Olive, 4 months old), but also because she is focusing on what she said was a longtime passion.

“I have been in the makeup chair since I was 6 years old,” said the actress….”

The MakeupMedic Cracked Compact Fix-It Kit

The Cracked Compact Fit-it Kit is compact, which enables you to take it with you, or keep in a drawer, to easily repair broken a pressed powder, a blush, a bronzer, (check the website for those specific compacts). The Makeup Medic aims to help you avoid the frustration and expense, of having to purchasing a replacement for the broken product.

Here is what is inside the zippered, vinyl carrying case:

The Pressing Tool is what you will use to easily press your broken powder back into place. It is reusable, and all that is necessary for a lifetime of use is soap and water to keep it clean.

Another component is the pressing swatch. The Kit contains three swatches that are made to fit the Pressing Tool. It will amazingly recreate the just-like-new finish on your powder. Refills for the swatches are available on the website.

The last piece that is contained in the Kit is the dropper bottle. This dropper bottle is what you will use to fill with 70% (or higher) isopropyl alcohol. Please note that the isopropyl alcohol is the only thing that is not included. The dropper bottle is used to put tiny drops of the isopropyl alcohol, which you will evenly distribute on your cracked cosmetic product to fix it. This, can be used over and over again. Simply refill with more isopropyl alcohol each time you need to fix a broken product.

How many compacts did you break before your idea for MakeupMedic Products?

I can’t tell you how many compacts, eye shadows, bronzers, I have broken. Too many in my lifetime to count. I actually just dropped one of my eye shadow trios yesterday, and broke one pan. Grrr! An eye shadow fix-it kit is certainly next in our product development roadmap.

What were the alternatives you found before you created the Cracked Compact Fix-it Kit?

Before I had even thought about creating the kit, I had seen many tutorials using a glass, or spoons, t-shirts, paper towels, etc. (you know the ones I’m talking about). And while all those methods work well, there was really nothing out there that had everything needed to repair a broken compact in one spot… like a kit of some sort that could be stored in your makeup drawer(s). As far as actual products, there are some professional products out there, but they are pretty pricey for a girl who is looking to save money, rather than spend it.

Did you show any friends before you had a finished product?

Definitely. First, I told a few about my idea. And then, as I was exploring each component of the kit, I would show them what I was working on and ask for feedback. And actually, one my closest friends helped me pick out the carrying case. 

How many tries did it take you to develop this fix-it kit, before bringing the Cracked Compact Fix-it Kit to production?

It took a few months of trial and error. The design of the pressing tool was the most important. I tried several different handle designs and disc widths and materials. I even tried different textures on the pressing tool and explored the possibility of eliminating the pressing swatch from the kit. But in the end, to get a polished finish on your pressed powder, a pressing swatch does the best job. When I was looking for the perfect material for pressing swatch, I tried so many, and found the best to be one included in our kit today. So, it took quite a bit of trial and error. Even the carrying case and dropper bottle, took a quite a bit of evaluation. I still feel it’s a work in progress, as I am certainly not opposed to tweeking the kit, based on feedback we get from our customers. It’s such a new product on the market, customer feedback is like gold to me – I am so eager to hear what they like or don’t like about our kit. 

I have the link for readers to check if their broken compact is compatible. However, when do you anticipate that other sizes of the pressing tool will available to use with your Kit?

This Spring. I am working on developing a new fix-it kit for eye shadows (and not just because I broke my eye shadow trio yesterday). It will include 3-4 different pressing tool sizes and pressing swatches sized for eye shadows. It’s call the Shattered Shadows Fix-it Kit.  Also, in the summer, I am considering some limited quantity special edition pressing tools in some new fun colors, or with patterns for embossing your pressed powder. The Pixi Beauty Fake Awake Kit is designed by Petra Strand, the creator of Pixi Beauty, who is also a makeup artist and a mum!  Pixi Beauty assures us that “although Pixi Beauty is not normally about faking it, sometimes we all need a little help!”  As a mother, I definitely need help, so the Pixi Beauty Fake Awake Kit helped me to try to fake being more awake than I felt! However, anyone who wakes up and feels like they need to look more rested…and they can’t go back to sleep…will love the Kit.

Here are the eight products in the Pixi Beauty Fake Awake Kit, which is very travel-friendly:
two concealers (0.03 oz each)- use separately, or combine the two to make a new color that appropriate for your skin tone. I used the lightest color and it worked very well to cover up my dark circles.
one cream highlighter (0.03 oz) – can be used anywhere you want to highlight; for example, your cheek bones, or make your lips look fuller by highlighting your cupid’s bow
one brightening cream (0.03 oz each)- “to give your eyes new energy.” This was very bright on my skin, but I’m very fair skinned.
One nude setting powder (0.06 oz) - to set concealer.
one peachy cheek and eye awakening powder (0.11 oz) had some pretty little glimmer to it

Both the lip gloss and the lip stain were not too sticky. You’ll get a nice shine to lips! Some swatches in different lighting–No flash. The pale pink lip gloss has very pretty sparkles in it and stayed on my lips until I had something to drink. The stain stayed longer, as it really did “stain” my lips and left color on my lips.

I am fair skinned, so the sheer colors worked perfectly on my skin tone. It did brighten my face! The only con I could come up with is that there is only one shade for Pixi Beauty Fake Awake Kit so it won’t work for everyone.

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics On the Go Beauty Set!

I was very excited to receive Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics On-the-Go Beauty Set! This is not only because Youngblood Cosmetics is cruelty free, but also, I had not yet tried any of the six items included in the Set.  All of Youngblood Mineral products are free from talc, perfumes and chemical dyes, and are non-comodogenic (they won’t clog your pores).

Available at the Youngblood Mineral website and New Beauty at Fred Segal for $25.50 USD, this set has deluxe size samples of six of Youngblood Mineral best sellers. As you can see in the photo below, you will also receive a beautiful ostrich print cosmetics bag, in which the products are enclosed. The Set is available for purchase in three colors: light, medium, and dark. I was provided with the Light shade, which was just right for my skin tone.

 Youngblood Mineral Primer:

Youngblood Mineral Primer is the first item in the Set. It is colorless and, as advertised, definitely helped in several ways. First, it smoothed out my skin so much that my pores were nearly impossible to see. Also, it made a very smooth surface on my skin before I applied my foundation. It is advertised as being lightweight and silky, and that is absolutely true. It does feel velvety. The formula just blended right in, and I think it’s great that it has minerals and vitamins for protecting my skin.

To use, I first applied a moisturizer, and let it soak in. Then, I pumped one drop of the Primer on my fingertips and rubbed them together to thoroughly mix the Primer. Then, I applied the Primer to my face. Youngblood Cosmetics writes that the Primer should be applied in circular motions. I learned what the exact amount was that I needed for my face–don’t overdo it! Just a tiny amount is needed. Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics

Youngblood Mineral Eye Impact Quick Recovery Eye Cream:

Youngblood Mineral Eye Impact Quick Recovery Eye Cream is the second product in the Set, and is advertised as being to, “instantly hydrate and de-puff to reduce the signs of fatigue around the delicate eye area.”  While I can’t write that it happened instantly, I definitely agree that on mornings where I was exhausted, it did reduce the puffiness, and my eye area looked more awake…less fatigued, unlike the rest of me!  I assume that can be attributed to the great ingredients that are in this anti aging eye cream. Menthol and caffeine would help to decrease the puffiness, and the moisturizers include algae, hyaluronic acid, and shea butter.

To use, apply the eye cream with very gentle pats around the eye area. I found that I needed a very small amount, and that wasn’t even a full pump. The eye cream can be used in the mornings, and in the evening, after cleansing your face. It feels cooling when you apply this eye cream.

The only con I can come up with is that some people will argue that a separate eye cream is not necessary. However, as there are ingredients that perk up the eye area, if your facial moisturizer doesn’t have this, you should check it out.

Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint:

Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint is the third product in the Set. This Youngblood Mineral product has many purposes. The formula is developed to provide light coverage to your face. It is lightweight and will provide you with sheer coverage. The ingredients of Seve Marine, Kiwi Extract, and Vitamin E are beneficial because they will help leave your skin smooth.

As soon as I put this on my face, it felt very moisturizing, and left it even toned. As you choose your Kit color (light, medium, or dark) I had just the right amount for a nice healthy looking glow. 

It’s easy to use the Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint. Make sure you have applied a moisturizer first, and then simply apply a small amount to your face and blend. Remember, this is a tint, and therefore, provides sheer coverage.

Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint Illuminating:

Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint Illuminating is the fourth product. The difference between this and product  described above is that this is Illuminating. It will luminize your face with a golden sheen. The only aspect that you may not want is, of course, the sheen. It’s good to try it, and this deluxe size is a great way to do it.

Youngblood Mineral Illuminating Tint Body:

Youngblood Mineral Illuminating Tint Body is the fifth product in the Beauty Set. It’s a very rich, extremely moisturizing lotion that is tinted, and is formulated to produce a glow on your body. This be used on your décolleté, shoulders, arms and legs. The fragrance is not overpowering, and is from the shea butter and coconut oil. I needed two pumps, and simply smoothed it on for coverage. Keep adding product until you have the coverage you desire. It will make your skin feel very smooth!

Youngblood Mineral Liquid Mineral Foundation:

Youngblood Mineral Liquid Mineral Foundation is the sixth, and final product, in the Set. The sample I received is the shade ‘Sand,’ because the Set I received was Light. However, while the Set is available in 3 shades (light, medium, and dark), if you purchase the Foundation separately, it is available in nine shades. The shade in the Set may not be a perfect match for you, but don’t let that turn you away from trying it with an appropriate shade.

One squeeze from the tube is all I needed. You can use a brush, your fingers, or a sponge. No matter what method I used, I loved the finish, and while I’m not sure the color was the perfect one for me, (I would want to also try the shades of pebble and shell), it did give me an excellent chance to see, and feel, the Foundation on my face.

I agree with Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Founder and President, Pauline Youngblood, that “With a retail value of $33.50, the On-the-Go Beauty Set is a very pretty, reasonably-priced gift you might want to give to yourself, too!” This is a great way to to sample deluxe size products that you haven’t yet tried from Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, or even to have an extra, on the go size of these super products.

First to be reviewed: IT Cosmetics Live, Love, Laugh Vitality Face Disc:

As I pulled the large disc out of the box, I was happy to see that it is enclosed in extra cardboard (white, pictured below) so that not only did my bronzer, blush, and illuminator arrive safely, but the large mirror was unbroken!

Live, Love, Laugh Vitality Face Disk is a waterproof anti-aging matte bronzer, brightening blush tint, and radiance illuminator:

It Cosmetics Vitality Face Disc is quite large in size (22.22 g 0.78 oz.), and includes a large mirror inside.  It is infused with anti-aging, hydrating ingredients. The disc has hydrolyzed collagen, peptides & drops of light™ technology, plus vitamins A, C, E, grapeseed, green tea, slim and aloe.

May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Black Iron Oxide, Yellow Iron Oxide, Red Iron Oxide, Manganese Violet, Ultramarines, Mica Iron Oxides, Mica Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide.

This is free of: talc, paraben, sulfate, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, and phthalates. It is hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic. Those wishing to avoid “cones” should note that there is dimethicone in this product.

How do you use IT Cosmetics Vitality Face Disc?

Full directions, with a color diagram, are given on the back of the box.

You can use the Jumbo Mega Luxe Powder Brush (reviewed later in the post), and apply the bronzer to those areas of your face that you would like a little more color. For example,  you can use the bronzer for color across your forehead, nose and chin; also the bronzer is excellent to put underneath your cheekbones and your jawline for dimension.

Use the luminating radiance powder on the areas of your face where you want light and illumination; this would be along the top-side of your cheek bones and your  brow bones.

The vitality blush may be applied to the apples of your cheeks for a really nice looking glow.

If you want a little shimmer in your bronzer, you just have to swirl your brush in both the matte bronzer, and the laminating powder.

I love that this is waterproof, and that, when applied correctly, is sure to give your face, as advertised, “a naturally pretty glow of health and vitality to your face….” I’ve always read that using bronzer is the secret to always having a youthful glow, and it Cosmetics Vitality Disc will most certainly help you to achieve that. I would completely agree with it Cosmetics that the Vitality Face Disc is an “all-in-one makeup must-have.”

The second product I received to review: IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye

Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Vitamin K & Collagen Concealer was created to be a full coverage concealer, one that would allow someone to use it and say, “bye – bye” to under eye issues. What’s great about Bye Bye Under Eye? Find a color match, and you have a waterproof formula that will not budge. It contains Vitamins K, A, C, E and Collagen, which it Cosmetics has written has been “clinically proven to reduce under eye puffiness and discoloration while strengthening the delicate skin of the under eye area.”

It is hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic. Make sure you do your usual morning routine of moisturizing, and sunscreen, etc., and then pat the tiniest amount on areas that you want covered. When I write the tiniest, I mean it. This will cover an amazing amount with the smallest drop. Put a little bit of powder over it, and you’re set. It won’t come off until you remove it. Really great formula!

To help you with your color choice, the above photo is courtesy of it Cosmetics, as I only can describe the light color. I have a very fair complexion; therefore, light worked perfectly for me. However, as you can see, the medium would work for 70% of skin tones.

Bye Bye Under Eye has been a bestseller product for it Cosmetics, and now a super-size (1 oz.) is available!  I just can’t imagine how long it is going to last. You need just a drop of the product to cover a lot of area, so to have this super size is incredible.

The makeup brushes arrived nicely package in a tube, and they quickly fluffed right out and felt unbelievably soft. If you notice the label on the top brush container (there is also one on the container below that is not showing) it reads: Made in China.

However! I emailed it Cosmetics, and they have assured me, in writing, “Our brushes and all of our products are cruelty free. Our brushes are made of cruelty free synthetic hair and we never test on animals.”

So, admire away! The top brush is the Jumbo Mega Luxe Powder Brush. It really is luxe; there are more than 120,000 hairs used to create this brush.

The Dual Airbrush Foundation/Concealer Brush will help you achieve a flawless application.

Not only do I love that the brushes are cruelty free and animal free, but I would never know that they are synthetic. They are beautifully made, of nice weight, and I had no issues with losing any of the hairs on the brushes.
