Marula Oil
Marula Oil for all skin types!
Yes! Because of its anti-microbial properties, it is great for acne prone skin.
For dry and/or mature skin, it’s a great moisturizer. It can help “plump up your skin” to reduce the fine lines.
I‘m sure that my readers know to always wear sun protection, but—just in case you missed a spot and get sunburned–Marula Oil is said to be excellent for that.
Following facials and chemical peels, the skin can be irritated and dry, and Marula Oil is excellent for care after treatments.
How to use Marula Oil:
As recommended, after cleansing my face, I used the Marula Oil every night for my face and neck area. If my skin was dry, it was recommended to apply more often.
Since I only have to use a few drops of the oil for my face and neck, I imagine that it will last quite a long time. However, it is recommended that you use the product within 6 months after opening. Just note, until you open it, it has a shelf life of 18 months.
The bottle was carefully selected for stability and to reduce waste. The twist cap pre-fills the pipette to deliver the exact dose for facial application.
The Leakey Collection’s Marula very easily absorbed into my skin. It has a light, non-greasy texture. It’s very moisturizing!
I love the Marula, but I did want to know:
How is the Marula Oil from The Leaky Collection different from other brands that are on the market?
A quick search and one will find that there are many products out there that use marula as an ingredient. When the Leakey Collection talks about Marula Beauty, it is about the benefits to the skin of women in the West, and the benefits to the women who produce it in East Africa. The Leakey Collection is a Fair Trade Company. They work with local communities to improve education, health conditions and lives. The community in which they work is very involved in the business structure of how they work, allowing the women the freedom they need to earn extra income and take care of their families.

Dr. Ashton Kaidi (photo below), is also a co-founder, and a board-certified plastic surgeon in California. He was so taken with The Leakey’s, and their work in Kenya, that after being impressed by the ORAC testing, it led him to conduct additional clinical testing.
Dr. Kaidi is an integral part of the company, and is the science behind the Marula Oil.
The Leakey Collection prides itself on the fact that it develops a premium product– from the beginning– to final Marula Oil product. There are sustainable wild-harvesting methods, and hand selection of kernels to produce the best oil. The special cold-press system provides a premium oil that is free of microscopic nut casing debris and other impurities. No chemicals are used in the Leakey Collection’s process.
Test results of the Marula Oil:
ORAC testing (Oxygen radical absorbance capacity) on Marula Oil against a very well known Argan Oil shows that Marula is 16% higher in antioxidants.
Clinical Study conducted with Breast Cancer patients who were undergoing post radiation therapy. The Leakey Collections original study abstract was accepted and presented at the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons meeting in Santa Barbara in January, 2011. The application of marula oil to radiated skin is new information in the medical world. Marula is not only excellent for skin hydration but the fact that there is a new and improved product for treatment of radiated skin could be newsworthy.
I found this interesting: Asili LLC and The Leakey Collection formed a partnership and called the product line Marula -The Leakey Collection. Asili means from the Earth and a Marula (tree) is, obviously, from the Earth!
