ani MICHELE Nail Art Review and Photos

ani MICHELE Nail Art

After reviewing two of the ani MICHELE nail polish shades I recieved, I decided to show you how beautiful they work together with an ani MICHELE nail art post. My inspiration is the night sky, and the name of the glittery black, Reach for the Stars shade.

In case you haven’t read my two previous posts showing both Love Bug and Reach for the Stars,  here are some facts you need to know. Ani Sousamian is the founder and owner of Ani Michele Products LLC. Since early childhood, Ani has had a passion and infatuation for nail polish. Ani MICHELE lacquer is different from the “typical” polish you would purchase in that it’s cruelty free, vegan, made in the United States, and five free of chemicals. Five free means that all the polishes are not only made without the three common chemicals found in nail polishes (toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde), but also without two other dangerous chemicals (formaldehyde resin and camphor).

Ani so strongly belives in staying positive and hoping for the best, and she reminds everyone of that on the bottom of each of the ani MICHELE bottles. Check out the inspirational motto, “always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.”

For the ani MICHELE nail art, I applied two coats of polish on all my nails and a top coat. My thoughts about the polish remain the same. The brush is just the right width to easily paint my fingernails. The polish dries quickly, and that’s extra important when I’m not only in a hurry to get somewhere, but doing nail art! The polish did a great job of only having minor chips after several days, and that’s to be expected since I use my hands to type, write, do dishes, etc..  Even without a top coat, the ani MICHELE nail lacquer has a beautiful glossy sheen. I have no cons to report about this polish, and I highly recommend it.

Tips For The Perfect At Home Manicure

Tips For The Perfect At Home Manicure

Tips For the Perfect At Home Manicure was written by Deco Miami  Founder, Julianna. You can read a little more about her cruelty free and vegan nail lacquer at the end of the post. “Ladies tell me all the time that they love nail polish, but are soo bad at painting their own nails. Here are some tips that I’ve picked up for an awesome mani that you can do yourself.

Tips For The Perfect At Home Manicure

Always use a top and base coat

I know, it’s hard to remember to use a top and base coat,  but they really really really will improve the quality of your mani. For one, painting a base coat on your nails will make your nail smoother so that your color will go on more evenly. A base coat will also protect your actual nail from being stained by your polish, because sometimes lacquers with yellow pigments (yellows, greens, some aquas, oranges) might leave a yellow tint on your nails.

A top coat’s purpose is easy to understand: not only does it make your nail glossier, but it’s meant to act as a protective barrier to prevent chips. Ever notice that your top coat doesn’t chip? That’s because the formula is a little different from color formula so that it doesn’t “flake off” in the same way that your color might if you banged your nail against something.

It’s not a huge deal if you’re in a hurry and need to paint over your old mani with a new color, as long as the brands are the same.

Every nail polish brand has a slightly different formula, and sometimes they don’t mix well when you put one on top of the other. I’ve never had any issues painting Deco lacquer over Deco lacquer, but Deco lacquer over another brand (or visa versa) always results in frustration as the newly applied coat never seems to completely harden. Like goes with like. Pro Tip: This rule especially holds true for top coats!

Color contrasts accentuate short nails, and color compliments make your nails seem bigger
If you have short nails, an easy trick to make them appear longer is simply to paint your nails with a neutral toned color that’s the same hue as your skin tone. For example, I have a rosy hue to my skin, and dusty pink créme, Nip Slip, looks awesome on my nails for this reason. I can get away with wearing Tied Down when I have shorter nails, because even though it’s a dark color, it has a burgundy tint to it that compliments the red in my skin. I only dare to wear Black Like My Soul or Brickell Blue when my nails are longer because the colors are such a contrast on my skin tone, so my nails pop out more.

Less is more
If you’re a bit of a messy nail polish painter, always remember that less is more when it comes to covering your nail. People get into trouble when they try to paint over their entire nail and accidentally get polish on their skin. The trick is simply to paint each nail with deliberate strokes more towards the center of your nail. Your nails will also look sleeker if you do it this way, because you’re creating the illusion that your nails are longer by not adding more width to them.

Use a crystal nail file
A crystal file is better than a traditional cheapy nail file because the rough part of the file is super fine and practically melts off the ridges of your nails. It’s also cleaner than a traditional sandpapery file, and a glass file won’t wear down so you never have to buy another one!

Solidify your paint job
Run your freshly painted nails (like, 5-10 minutes after painting them) under cold water for 2-3 minutes to help harden the lacquer. Coldness hardens lacquer, this is an easy way to add some immediate durability to your mani.

Stability
Maybe this is obvious to some of you, but put your hand down on a tabletop when you paint it! It’s much easier to neatly paint something when it isn’t floating around in front of you. Especially when you’re painting with your non-dominant hand. (Meaning, if you’re right handed and painting your right hand with your left hand.)

Patience, patience, patience!
Patience is the key, even though I know you don’t want to hear that! Take your time when you’re painting your nails, and allow each coat to dry before adding another coat. It’s better to take your time than to be messy and have to re-do your nails all over again.”

xx,
Jules

butter London The Black Knight

butter London The Black Knight

I have quite a few butter London polishes, and now that I’m a little braver doing nail posts, I’m going to start swatching all of them. The Black Knight is just filled to the brim with glitter. The base is black, and as you can see in the photos, the pink and blue glitter is really beautiful. There is also black and silver glitter, and they are in a variety of sizes.

In addition to brushing on the shade, I used a sponge. This was actually a very sheer formula, and probably because of all the glitter, didn’t always apply evenly. So, for the photos, I applied a full three coats on my ring finger and pinky. I think it’s very pretty without a top coat, so I decided to quickly take some photos without one while I stlll had some winter outside light.

I’m glad that I purchased this, because in the years that I’ve owned it, I’ve used it quite a bit on it’s own, and as a top coat. If you look back at my previous post about butter LONDON Union Jack Black, I’ve used it as a topper for this one when it started to chip.

SpaRitual Negative Space Manicure

SpaRitual Negative Space Manicure

Today’s post is using cruelty free and vegan nail lacquer: SpaRitual, for a Negative Space Manicure.  I’m happy to write that in addition to SpaRitual nail lacquers being not only cruelty free and vegan, they are also free of DBP, toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin. Shel Pink founded Sparitual in 2004, and in addition to the gorgeous nail lacquers, includes body care products such as body lotions and body oils.

I thought I’d share one of my favorite shades, SpaRitual Oasis, from the Wander Collection. Oasis is described as a “sandy” matte shimmer. However, it is not sandy in texture; it is a reference to the wander collection…, “Home for the night is the color of sand, olive and deep blue of a fertile oasis.”  Here’s my take on a negative space manicure:
