Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish

Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish

Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish was sent to me by Ani herself. Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish is cruelty free, vegan, and seven free of chemicals. City Lights does not have the three common chemicals found in many nail polishes: Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, but it also does not have four other chemicals: Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, TPHP and Xylene. It is also made in the United States.

Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish is a beautiful holographic shade, no matter the lighting conditions. In the post, I will share photos in natural light, as well as in the sunshine.

Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish

Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish is a sexy blue shade that is filled with holographic glitter. I think you would agree with that this creates a beautiful rainbow effect on my nails. I used two coats of polish, and there is no top coat on any of my nails. City Lights applied smoothly, and dried to such a gorgeous shade. And, for the record, I didn’t have to do anything special to make the Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish look fabulous. It just is!

Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish

I think that the Ani Michele City Lights is fantastic, as are all of the polishes I’ve reviewed from this company. City Lights is fast drying, long lasting, and kept the fabulous holographic shimmer on for four days without needing a touch-up. Hold the glass bottle up to the sun and I’m sure you’ll see the rainbow effect. I like the photo below because it shows City Lights being spectacularly holographic, and also that in certain lights it can have a darker blue look.

Whether you’re a holo fiend or not, I think that you need to try the Ani Michele City Lights Nail Polish. The formula is perfect and it’s chock-full of holographic glitter that has a beautiful rainbow effect. Ani Michele Golden Opportunity Nail Polish Review

Ani Michele Golden Opportunity

Ani Michele Golden Opportunity is another shade that I received from the new Metallic Nail Polish Collection. As the name implies, this is a gorgeous shimmery gold polish. It’s cruelty free, vegan, and also 7-Free of Chemicals. In addition, all of the ani Michele polishes are made in the United States. This shade doesn’t need anything added to have your nails look dazzling. However, I did want to share another shade, so I added a base color of Love Bug to the Ani Michele Golden Opportunity
nail art.

Ani Michele polish is 7-free of Chemicals. Do you know what that means? It means that the polish is free of the three common chemicals found in many nail polishes: Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde. In addition, it does not have four other chemicals: Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, TPHP and Xylene. Hence, the 7-free label.

In case you haven’t read any of my previous reviews, I’ll fill you in on some facts. Ani Sousamian is the founder and owner of ani Michele. Since early childhood, Ani has had a passion and infatuation for nail polish. I’m thankful that in addition to being cruelty free and vegan, each of the shades are either 5-free or 7-free of chemicals!  Ani wants her beautiful lacquer bottles to,“inspire, empower and compliment each women’s beauty and personality, inside and out.” Don’t you love what is on the back of the Ani Michele Golden Opportunity Nail Polish bottle? “Dream Big, Sparkle More, Shine Bright.” Everyone should appreciate that Ani’s belief in staying positive and hoping for the best is incorporated in her motto: “Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.”

Metallic Nail Polish Collection from Ani Michele

Metallic Nail Polish Collection from Ani Michele

Ani Michele has a new Metallic Nail Polish Collection, and People’s Choice is one that I received. This is a perfect example of a true rose gold color. It is cruelty free, vegan, and also 7-Free of Chemicals. All of the Ani Michele polishes are made in the United States. I also wanted to do some nail art, so I decided to add a snowflake using another shade from the Metallic Nail Polish Collection: Wishing on a Star Sparkle. This is a beautiful shade of silver!

Metallic Nail Polish Collection

Ani Michele is also cruelty free, vegan, and 7-free of Chemicals. I’d like to take a moment to explain what 7-free means. Not only does the polish not have the three common chemicals found in many nail polishes: Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, but it also does not have four other chemicals: Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, TPHP and Xylene.

Metallic Nail Polish Collection

So, who is the person behind ani Michele? Ani Sousamian is the founder and owner. Since early childhood, Ani has had a passion and infatuation for nail polish. The ani MICHELE lacquer is different from the “typical” polish you would purchase. The list of differences is large. It’s cruelty free, vegan, and made in the United States. Depending on the shade, it’s either five free of chemicals, or it’s seven free! Also, Ani wants her beautiful lacquer bottles to,“inspire, empower and compliment each women’s beauty and personality, inside and out.”

I also love that Ani believes in staying positive and hoping for the best. Her inspirational motto supports that:

“Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen.”

I think ani MICHELE polish is fantastic. It is fast drying, long lasting, and has a fabulous glossy sheen. Yes, you absolutely should add a top coat so the polish will last longer. However, both shades, People’s Choice and Wishing On a Star Sparkle, are beautiful without one. I like the look and feel of the glass bottle, and the brush is just the right width for painting my fingernails. Both of these shades from the Metaillic Nail Polish Collection are highly recommended!

Metallic Nail Polish Collection

Ani wants her ani MICHELE polish to be a reminder to live a positive karmic lifestyle, feel good about yourself, and make a positive impact on those around you.

Stay tuned for next Monday’s manicure, where I will share another shade from the Metallic Nail Polish Collection.

Burberry Inspired Nail Art Using Inkk Nail Lacquers

Burberry Inspired Nail Art Using Inkk Nail Lacquers

Today’s Monday manicure is a Burberry Inspired Nail Art using Inkk Nail Lacquers. I like the Burberry print, but would never purchase from the company. They are not cruelty free as they sell their beauty products in China! In addition, they use real fur, etc.. Fortunately, you can do your own Burberry Inspired Nail Art using Inkk Nail Lacquers! Inkk is cruelty free, vegan, and five-free (of harmful chemicals). And, seriously, the Inkk Nail Lacquers are dirt cheap compared to anything that you might be (sadly) tempted to purchase from Burberry!

The gorgeous, large bottles hold 18ml of polish, and are made in the USA. Go to the Inkk website and you will see that you can make a custom nail lacquer. In addition, you can purchase one from the House of Inkk Collection. The two shades used in the Burberry Inspired Nail Art are Francesca, and another that I previously reviewed, Snow Shadow. Snow Shadow is from House of Inkk’s Winter Arctic Collection. The Winter Arctic Collection is limited edition, so it’s only available until December 16th, or until supplies last.

Burberry Inspired Nail Art

Please note that I only used a top coat on my one nail (ring finger) for the Burberry Inspired Nail Art. My other nails are without a top coat, and you can see just how glossy the Inkk Francesca is! No matter what the conditions, the polish is gorgeous and easy to apply.  Yes, I did apply a top coat after the photos, so I would have so many more days without having to touch up my nails!

Here’s some good advice to remember whether you’re doing the Burberry Inspired Nail Art, or simply applying Inkk Polish. It’s from Harper’s Bazaar, 2015: “The main culprit behind chips and peels,” according to manicurist Deborah Lippmann, “is rushed, heavy-handed application. You absolutely must let each layer—base coat, first polish application, second polish application and top coat—dry completely before doing the next,” she says. “The solvents in the polish need no less than two minutes to evaporate and if you actually watch the nail for that period,” explains Lippmann, “you’ll see it go from having a really wet look to a dried-down, glassy look that means the solvents are gone. When you paint on your next coat before the layer before is fully dry, you get peeling in sheets,” she says. Part two of the problem is too-thick application: “You want each layer to be very thin—it’s okay if the first coat is streaky, you’ll cover that the next time.”
So, I have to just add that my experience with Inkk Nail Lacquers is that the first coat is never streaky. Ever.

For the photo above, I wrapped my black scarf around my fingers, because with the temperature outside reading 22°F, I decided to take this inside and simulate real life conditions!
If you haven’t tried any of the Inkk Lacquers, now is the time! The Winter Arctic Collection is discounted, and is limited edition.

Shimmer Blush Recipe: Comp Chick’s Guide DIY Beauty

Shimmer Blush Recipe

The Shimmer Blush Recipe is being reprinted on Moxie Reviews with special permission from the publisher of Sunny Subramanian’s beautiful book, The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty: 125 Recipes for Vegan, Gluten-Free, Cruelty-Free Makeup, Skin and Hair Care Products.

Sunny was the very first vegan beauty blogger to make a name for herself. In addition to being a super mom, and now an author, she’s also been a very kind person to yours truly…way back, when I first started 5 years ago! Because of that willingness to help a blogger out, Sunny made sure that I received a complimentary copy of her above mentioned book. The shimmer blush recipe is one of the 125 recipes in the book. I’ve done a several posts including a full review of the book, and then tried a few of the easy to follow recipes: Pore Shrinking Basil Toner and a Strawberry Natural Tooth Recipe.

Now, it’s time to share the (obviously) vegan shimmer blush recipe from the expert herself, Sunny!
“It’s time to talk about your sweet cheeks (the ones upstairs, not your hindquarters). Using blush is a fabulous way to appear youthful and healthy, and this natural option rocks at rosying up your complexion”
The shimmer blush recipe is best for: ♥ all skin types

Top Tip: Make sure your beet root powder is super-duper finely ground, and then grind it some more in a blender. The finer it is, the better it’ll adhere to your skin.

Superstar ingredient:
Beets contain high levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and micronutrients. Red beets also contain a pigment called betanin, which gives them their bright magenta coloring. In addition to using beet root powder to make blush, you can also use it as natural food coloring.

  • Makeup sifter jar

1 tsp        finely ground beet root powder, alkanet root powder or
hibiscus flower powder 5 mL

1⁄2 tsp     arrowroot powder                          2 mL

1⁄4 tsp     unsweetened cocoa powder        1 mL

Pinch       gold mica powder                         Pinch

3 to 5       drops lavender essential oil        3 to 5

  1. Pour beet root powder into a small bowl. Whisk in arrowroot powder and cocoa powder, a little at a time, until desired shade is achieved. Discard any remaining arrowroot powder and cocoa powder.
  2. Whisk in mica powder and lavender essential oil until well combined. Pour into jar.
  3. Sprinkle blush onto a fluffy blush brush and apply to cheeks.
  4. Store at room temperature for up to 6 months.

Variation of Shimmer Blush Recipe–Matte Blush: Omit gold mica for
a matte finish.
